jcs
Hi All, Changed my clutch and tranny fluid. Tranny plug, the large T70 plug at the bottom, is dripping, even though I put in a new crush washer. I think the torque value in the Subaru maintenance guide is wrong -- says that filler plug should be torqued to around 54 foot pounds but it's really dripping at that torque. And I remember having to push my breaker bar pretty hard to loosen it. What have you guys been torqueing that plug to? Any recommendations? Max Capacity
Tight enough so it doesn't leak. I never torqued it just tighten it, you can always make it a litle tighter. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Engine Build - Click Here
Akasa
^ This. I always just dial in the torque by hand so it doesn't leak, the same goes for my oil drain and any other drain. Also, make sure you're putting the crush washer on in the correct direction, it usually doesn't really matter too much, but just make sure the flat side of the crush washer is against the bolt, and the crush side is against the trans. To my understanding, when you work with crush washers, you want the flat side against the smoothest, machined side.
DonnyJagaru
Interesting, I didn't see no washer on my car. It was just a plug. I rammed it in pretty good, probably 60ft-lbs. FWIW, I had to use my impact gun to remove so it was tight from the factory.
