jonnyt88
Any outback owners do their own exhaust cutout on rear bumper for running an aftermarket exhaust?

Rhitter
bump for this thread, anyone running a lgt catback or axle back on OBXT? Do you mean the OEM LGT catback? http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/08-outback-2-5i-ct-221937.html If you mean after market - yes to that too. Just read through the build threads in this forum. You will need to change the view options to see last years for the updates. INVNO1
I used an LGT exhaust on my OBXT, but instead of cutting the rear bumper up we cut the tips off the mufflers and just welded up some turn-downs http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l232/Rubenn27/OBXT/20140428_114138_zpsbtkr31vb.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l232/Rubenn27/OBXT/20140428_114144_zpsjh9pckr6.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l232/Rubenn27/OBXT/20140428_120200_zpswbzq9ijx.jpg http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l232/Rubenn27/OBXT/20140428_120209_zpsshxxymdt.jpg
OBXTmach3
I am running a 05-09 Magnaflow LGT Sedan cat-back on my '09 Outback XT. My excessive research here, the Outback board, and NASIOC all told me I could do two things: cut the tips off and dump them (like the above poster) or cut holes in my bumper cover. I really like the look of straight out the back tips plus it's going with my Mach 3 theme, so I went the cut route. Unfortunately I don't think anyone has done it because as soon as the plastic was rough cut and gone, the crash bar was right in the way. I saw no mention of this in my research (however it was mentioned in JDM/AUS/EURO OB bumper swaps). This lead to hacking it up to make it driveable and eventually bumper removal for final clean crash bar and bumper cover trimming/cuts. LGT sedan bumpers (and therefore exhaust) is shorter in the tip area compared to LGT wagons or our Outbacks, so extended tips are needed. I'm still picking out new tips and plan on adding a resonator in the mid-pipe to make it more livable (thanks wagons! lol). Also note: axle-back tubing gets mighty close to the driver's lower control arm at full droop and the passenger side of the sway bar at ride height. This may be different depending on your particular brand choice and tubing size. I'm solving that by slightly longer exhaust rubbers. Some pics and unfortunately my system isn't quite done yet but will be covered in my future build thread. http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/ww222/sblakeley22/Boobaru/IMG_2038_zps3b6c1dcd.jpg http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/ww222/sblakeley22/Boobaru/IMG_2218_zpsc1b27caf.jpg http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/ww222/sblakeley22/Boobaru/IMG_2495_zpsa4a4c102.jpg http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/ww222/sblakeley22/Boobaru/IMG_2499_zpsbef71d56.jpg
OBXTrunner
Awesome information, didnt even think of the fact that the lgt tips are shorter, im curious to see how far the tips come out on the OB with the stock bumper with a aftermarket lgt mufflers
Scooby2.5
Or get the bumper off an outback anywhere else in the world where they have cutouts. I ordered mine from japan parts and its also shorter than the factory US bumper. I posted a write up on it
kaitanium
or why not save the work and just get nameless axlebacks?
Golf4283
Just throwing in an opinion here but if you cut the bumper beam I'm willing to bet that if you get in an accident that your insurance won't cover anything since you modified the beam. Just my $.02. I'd guess Scooby2.5 would be okay since the bumper and beam appear unmodified on his JDM conversion. Once you cut it though I think it's game over. Scooby2.5
I removed the wagon beam and brackets and purchased the brackets and beam from a sedan. Bolted right in and fit under the shorter skin perfect. Its like factory
