Inspector Gadget
I know it's hard to believe I would listen to the radio when I can listen to a CD or other music source, but sometimes I do. Living outside a metropolitan area means that radio reception often sucks. At the moment any option is on the table, but what is the best way to boost radio reception? Dispatch20
I'd be curious about this, too. I think the tint on my rear window is hurting my FM reception. I've seen some external antenna's that you can mount to the car, but I need to research a bit more.
Inspector Gadget
Are Dispatch20 and I the only ones that listen to the radio in outlying areas? Any suggestions for a way to boost FM reception - short of moving to a more urban area - would be appreciated.
98legwag
I am in the Washington DC suburbs and my reception still sucks. Granted my car is tinted but the reception sucked before I got the tint done.
ROC05lgt
Something like THIS could work neatly mounted on the rear window. Also, tint should not interfere with reception unless its a metalized film or the installer was completely wreckless and damaged the defroster lines. jhawk222
I nicked my antenna removing tint! Reception suffers when the rear defrost is turned on:rolleyes:
ScoobyGT15
Yea I suffer from this too. I have tints as well but my reception was terrible before that as well. It seems like when it is overcast or raining the reception is the worst. I didnt do a lot of looking but where is the antenna actually mounted in our cars. I was figuring I might of hit the wire to it or the antenna and just didnt realize when I was doing a few upgrades.
DonnyJagaru
I've also noticed the reception is a little weak. The rear-window antenna has a built-in receive preamplifier. I can't think of a way to improve things unless you install an FM antenna on the car, and a full-length one (about 30") at that. There's probably room for an electric telescopic in the rear fender.
