How To Replace Donnelly Mirror with Gentex Homelink Mirror

My stock mirror was starting starting to fail, I saw this as a perfect opportunity to upgrade to a Homelink mirror. This is a very simple upgrade if you find the mirror with the same mounting, for me an 08 STI mirror (Will try to get part number) worked wonderfully.

Once removed it revealed the mount, Subaru has a bunch of different mounts, hopefully the 08 STI mirror I got fits.

Once I removed the adapter that the STI mirror came with, underneath was the same mount!

Next was needing to replace the connector since they are different.

New wire was $15 at the dealership (cheaper then people's custom made ones on ebay). Part number: H501SAG030

After that I had to set the zone to my location and force it into Config mode (press and hold the button for 9 seconds), then drive a car in a 3 circles.

You don't need Subaru mirror

 

I've ran Hyundai minivan one, and Hyundai Genesis mirror. Both have the right plugs on both side, GNTX 453? You can buy those OEM cables online for about $7 shipped

How do you open up the dome light assembly?

 

I put in LED lights up there years ago but now I can't figure out how I did it.

From what I remember you just pull it down on one of the sides and it should come off.

Anyone know if you can wire up one of these in a model that didn't come equipped with a autodimming mirror? That is, is the plug still up there if I bought the mirror and wire mentioned in the write up.
