Oglesby47 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Im looking for an air filter but cant really find one for my legacy and advice?
blankdeluxe Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 2.5 rs stuff fits. I would just leave things alone in the intake department unless you are planning on doing other mods along with it. It really just makes the motor make more noise. The stock subie system works quite well. I built my intake with a odds and ends bits of pipe and silicone but I turboed mine so I had to change everything up.
DOHCEJ22E1 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Get a 95 intake tube or an aftermarket one for an Impreza. Mate it to your existing air filter box and your fuel efficiency will increase some. You will have to follow up with fuel and ignition mods to gain the best results, which is an improved throttle response/better powerband.
Bassnectar Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I run my 03 wrx motor with the stock intake because it is good for over 300WHP or until you hit stage 3.. I would think a K&N air filter in the stock box would give you as much as a warm air intake anyday. My previous 98 2.5GT had the "weapon R" intake with the foam filter, the engine sounded mean. But sometimes car would buck as it took in air to quickly for the MAF to deal with and leaned out. I believe the intake shortened the life of that engine but don't have much proof to back it up.. so you can experiment for yourself.
spooln30 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 If he's got that stupid intake design with air chambers like on my 99 lgt then they don't work quite well. I just got a older intake tube from a 96 L 2.2 and bolted on my HKS Super MagaFlow intake from my old 7mgte Supra to the MAF and it works really well. It's the mushroom style filter with the built in Velocity Stack. Noticed a 2 mpg city and 5 mpg highway after I installed this set up. Plus it sounds much better and I never have to buy air filters these are cleanable. Making one out of aluminum or stainless bends and straights would be fairly easy with access to a Tig welder.
