Araiza42 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Im looking to buy a 2005 Legacy GT. I just wanted to know what are common mechanical problems for this car (like a turbo failure) just want to know what im getting into. I was going to get a mechanic to check it out and also a compression test done on the engine. The legacy has 130,000 miles in it. Thank you all for the help
AF_3C2 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 There are plenty of threads on this already- but a quick wrap-up would include getting both the compression test and leak down done on top of these common failures: - Turbo due to banjo bolt filters getting clogged - Oil pickup tube cracking - AVCS failure from the other banjo bolt filter - Cylinder 4 cracked ringland from poor factory tune Plus I'm sure there is some that are missed. Did you get a CarFax? Has it been through multiple owners in quick sucession?
Araiza42 Posted January 16, 2014 Author Posted January 16, 2014 Not yet. Im getting it now. Thank you
Araiza42 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 Im going to buy it. What should i look for when i get it? What should the first thing i check/change?
5doorLegacy Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Im going to buy it. What should i look for when i get it? What should the first thing i check/change? Mechanical problems with the engine see above ^^^^^^^^^^ Did you drive in very slow circles? My hubby said the torque bind transmission thing can be a problem
AF_3C2 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Im going to buy it. What should i look for when i get it? What should the first thing i check/change? Take it to a shop you trust for a pre-inspection and have a compression test and leak down done first. Probably put you back over a $100 though.
bluesuby Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Rear wheel bearings. Probably replaced under warranty by 100,000 miles.
GTTuner Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 It might be easier to say what are uncommon failures. turbos, clutches, head gaskets, wheel bearings, center diffs, axle boots........shall I keep going?
