RX-78 Gundam Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Hey Guys, Been reading around on how hard it is to find a Spec B. I'm not in a rush to purchase one now, as I've been casually looking for about a year online. Main criteria is one owner and no mods. I may be flexible on the mileage if I'm considering getting the engine rebuilt down the road (looking to keep car forever). Here's one of the listings. What attracts me is the lower price (since I plan on doing body work and repainting). I know I'll be paying a few thousand for maintenance right off the bat too with the higher mileage cars. http://quantrellforlife.com/Lexington/For-Sale/Used/Subaru/Legacy/2008-GT-Spec-B-w-Nav-Gray-Car/24773696/ Thanks in advance for the advice!
GEE-OTTO Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 $13K not bad but and dont let mileage scare you off. Neglect occurs at 30K or 130K miles the result is the same IF you can go look at that would be helpful I never like listings where they clearly have the car but dont display actual photos. Drive it feel it out may be in need of a clutch or timing job just to get to a known state then you can start monitoring for other issues if they exist. I held out for a Spec.B but the one I wanted was rare RRP 09 Spec.B or LGT even. I bought a 09 LGT 1 owner recently no rust good records and had to put a clutch in it within 2 weeks so understand that records and test drive cant/wont highlight every flaw.
scoobyscoodle Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Just be patient and something will come up. I wouldn't be too fixed on one owner though, it depends on the scenario. When I got mine I was the third owner, but the car had extremely low miles, garaged its whole life, carfax, and maintenance records. Finding one completely oem is certainly possible, and while I wouldn't want to get one with extensive mods, I'd rather buy one from an enthusiast with a few suspension mods than from a non-car person who took care of the car in a mediocre fashion and didn't even appreciate the car they had.
jonnyt88 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Id love an 09 LGT Limited or an 09 Spec.B, mainly for the Better stereo. I didnt see any in the months i was waiting for my WRX to sell, and settled on a 2.5i limited Couple weeks ago I saw a ruby red Spec.b parked a couple condo units up from my... I was quite jealous. I thought about stealing it, swapping his winged trunk for my wingless, and the plates, but my brother said he would probably notice when his 6-speed was converted to a 4eat....
boxkita Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 search for an owner on here - thetoad. he has an 06 specB he'd probably be willing to get rid of. hates it. Build my car Boxkita Track days
GrendelGT Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 http://burlington.craigslist.org/cto/4206207925.html Very minor mods, something I ran across searching every freaking contiguous state on craigslist... there are also a few on cars.com
odepaj Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Just keep an eye out and you'll find the perfect spec. It took me 2-3 months to find my never-modded, single owner '08. So it's possible if you just wait for the right one to come around

I'd have scooped it up over my 2010 LGT since this spec B is only a couple hours away.
