bcmaxx Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 So noticing some slippage to the rear end of my automatic leg sdn. Time for some new clutchpack work? what is involved? I noticed they share the same tear transfer/extension housing gasket as thew newer models, can a newer setup be retrofitted?
bcmaxx Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 wow not a lot of traffic in this section of the forum. is there a better one for our old dogs? anyways, I've ordered everything for a 98 forester, it appears to be the same and will work
monkeyposeur Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Bbbslegacycentral.org is a good resource for first gens. Lots of later transmissions swap right over so you are probably good, but I'm not too knowledgeable about this subject.
snederhiser Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Hello; Download a FSM and look in the trouble shooting section to narrow down the culprit. Could be that the clutches are worn or bad solenoid. Have you dropped the pan to check for debris, is the atf stinky? There is no simple solution for automatics. Most people will buy a trans out of the junk yard, being the cheapest solution. Even doing the work myself, I would expect to spend $500.00 in parts to rebuild. For $250.00 I can get a replacement and new atf and filter, Steven.
bcmaxx Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 Hi! atf is clean and fresh. I just ordered everything new, new clutch disks, solenoid, piston, square cut seals. So I'll replace it all while i'm in there. Hoping the basket and case is in good shape, I have a few donors if not.
monkeyposeur Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Post some pics of the install if you can!
bcmaxx Posted January 18, 2014 Author Posted January 18, 2014 Post some pics of the install if you can! will do, just waiting for the solenoid, silly thing is on b/o status.
