corey_nethingcars Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 So. I got in a little accident, slid into a curb. Front right passenger wheel hit, replaced the lower control arm as well as the hub assembly. I am getting a "grinding" I can hear, and can also feel at my feet when: * I accelerate to hit a high RPM, let go of gas, and let car slow down not applying brake pressure. So, I guess you can say when the engine/tranny is under stress at high RPM. It does not do it constantly! I drove it for a while with no issues up until 5 minutes before the destination when I started noticing the noise/feeling at my feet. Once or twice it made the noise after driving, when I was in Park/Neutral and I revved the engine. Looking at the car, axle is tight, no rips or tears anywhere, front end all feels tight. Car shifts fine and engine sounds perfect. Noticed a tranny mount bolt was bent, so possibly the mount is loose/twisted, possibly causing metal-to-metal and sending vibration throughout the chassis? Also, maybe just a tiny bit of drive shaft play.Other than that, not sure what it could be. It only does it when I put the car under fairly high stress, as I explained above. Any help would be great! (IT IS A 5EAT, not a manual)
ehsnils Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Either the axle took a beating or the gearbox bearing is damaged or is going. The bent transmission support indicates that it was more damage than what you did get repaired.
bjrongo Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I would check the tranny as well as the drive shaft (the rod from rear diff to tranny). I shattered(it literally broke into pieaces) my Transmission on the highway a weak after I had been hearing the same "grindy" noises
