drunkinmonk Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Hi guys, I have some cheap eBay hid lights in my fog lights. Yes I know it's not the best but I like them. I've had them in there for a month and now every time I turn them on it blows out the fuse. I tried hooking up a relay harness to it but it blows that fuse in the harness. I eventually used the harness for my front lite beam hids. I can plug one hid fog light and one regular and that works, that's what I have it for now and its kinda ghetto. I was wondering if it's just because it's the cheap hid causing this since the relay harness works on my low beam but then again the hid fogs worked for a month without blowing a fuse. Any ideas? I will be ordering a new set of hid and relay harness from ddm. Thanks for the help.
chutoyy Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Check polarity of the plugs and make sure there's a secure connection so it doesn't short itself out. Also, make sure you have a good ground for the relay harness.
drunkinmonk Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Polarity is fine they worked for a month without being touched since I installed them. I did notice that the plug from the car to the ballast want secure. They plugged in to reach other but didn't clip on with the plastic tabs. That one is fine it's when I plug in the second one it blows the fuse. I'm not sure if it can't handle the two connections or its that second side the passenger side. I spent a couple of hours trouble shooting and trying different ways to eliminate sine variables. One scenario I didn't try was hooking up just the passage side fog to see if that's the one shorting it out. Damnit it's suppose to be freezing the next few days too in Maine. I'll try it later when it warms up.
AkumaMax Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 What kit do you have? What wattage? What kalvin? Is there any exposed connectors??? I know HID's on our low beams usually come with Spade connectors that just plug into our headlight sockets witch need to be taped individually!
drunkinmonk Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 35 watts, 3000k, no spade connections. I'll have to check out what kit. I'm hoping the ddm kit well solve it but it takes a few weeks before I get that from overseas.
drunkinmonk Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Yes and it keeps on blowing the fuse in the relay kit.
AkumaMax Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Something is fishy with that then. Maybe a bad relay.
drunkinmonk Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 I ended up using that rely harness for my lie beam hid headlight and it works fine. Guess I'll wait for the ddm hid and rely kit. It's strange it's not working for my fogs.
proflashrtist Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Bumping to ask an HID question. Just had HIDs installed and wondering what to do I both my high beams. Only did my lows and now my highs just look...like crap comparatively. Should the HIDs serve dual purpose or should high beams get a separate HID kit?
AkumaMax Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 It's pointless for High beams to have HID really. The reason being is how often do you use them? For the short while that you do use them the chances of them lighting up into full wattage is almost never so your stock high beams would be better. If you would like just get some better bulbs. Also another thing is you would have to disable the DRL(daytime running lights) for they interfere with the hid kit.
