H6 3.0 conversion

first thread please comment.

Has anyone dropped a 3.0 H6 engine from one of the later ll.bean wagons into an older model like a '97?

What were some of the obstacles you ran into?

I have a '97 LSI so its automatic, will this transmission matchup or will i have to change it out too? and would i have to add a new Ecu?

I know turbo would give me allot more power but the 3.0 is the little more power i need with more reliability.

Thanks for the help

thanks for the links but i was wondering if anyones done the swap with the newer model H6 from the 2000+ l.l.bean editions, the ez30 or ez30d.

those links were for swaps of the eg33 from older svx's

has anyone dropped an ez30 in a 95-97 wagon?

Anything is possible with enough knowledge and of course money! Lol. I've seen Toyota 2jzgte engines swapped in second gens.

I've come close. . . swapped a EZ30 into a base 2000 OBW.

Really it was just an exercise in bolting/unbolting stuff.

Offhand, no the 97 trans won't work. No way, no how. It's a crap ratio for a 3.0 anyway. Yours will be 4.44, EZ30 came with 4.11 and could comfortably go down to 3.90 if such an animal existed. You'll need the rear diff too, but you can probably use your existing driveshaft.

Use the engine and trans from the donor car and merge the harnesses. Hardest thing to deal with will be the integrated auto HVAC, unless you happen to be lucky enough to find one of the base 3.0's with cloth and manual HVAC. I suppose you could try to incorporate that into your 97 but it'll be a challenge to say the least.

Auto HVAC systems get some input from the ECU as to how to behave. You could probably strip it out successfully but it would be easier to use parts from a car as similar to what you have as possible.

Fast Betty on this link pay attention to Patrick Olson. He's transferring a EZ30D motor into a BD like yours. It looks like he will have the most problem with the radiator. Not because of the size of the motor but because it was extra hoses that the BD RADIATOR doesn't have. And you can't just drop in a H6 radiator in your BD because it sits too high for the hood to close. It's best to buy an entire donor car so that you don't have to merge any wires and just try to salvage as much of the EZ30D's equipment that you can. If you can get the Auto A/C from a 03' L. L. Bean you Re golden. Also the EZ motors have a timing chain not a belt. I had to buy an entire car just to begin to even think about my swap. My story is on that thread as well:
