iano81 Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Hello All, I recently became the owner of a 09 Legacy that I have grown very fond of. Buffalo winters and a Subaru go perfectly together. That said, I have noticed that when I start the car in the Am, defroster at full blast, I notice a burning smell in the cabin. There is no visible smoke, and it eventually goes away. I have seen numerous posts for the GT model with this issue but none for a non GT. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am nearing the end of the 30 day warranty and would like to get it fixed ASAP. Thanks,
GEE-OTTO Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Is it a manual or auto? The smell is it like a burnt or hot brake smell or electrical or like burnt sweet type smell?
iano81 Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 It is auto, the smell is not sweet...more like hot brake smell than any of the others, thanks
apexi Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 The oil filters is surrounded by exhaust piping, have you had an oil change recently? I always spill oil on my exhaust when removing the filter, that or maybe the filter gasket is leaking? There are other possibilities, but that's my first guess. The passenger side cv boot also sits right above the catalytic converter, and it might've flung some grease onto the cats heat shield too. http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=170227&d=1387168230
