Mixed feelings about a lightweight flywheel

I have mixed feelings about the ACT streetlite flywheel I installed with my 6MT swap. I ran an 06 WRX flywheel with my previous ACT clutch which was great. My main gripe is how the car transitions from cruising to decel when I lift off the throttle. My car engine brakes too well. But, when I do spirited driving I love the flywheel.

Pros of the streetlite:

  • Rev matching is quicker and easier
  • Car flies through 1st and 2nd gear at WOT
  • More direct connection to the car through the throttle pedal

Cons of the streetlite:

  • Have to slip the clutch more when starting from a stop
  • When I lift off the throttle in traffic, the car immediately engine brakes HARD and the car bucks in the lower gears. I'm trying to tune around this with adding fuel during tip-out and changing the decel overrun
  • Slightly more noise and vibration, but it's not bad.

  • 2 weeks later...

im trying to decide between the act streetlite and an oem single mass flywheel. i have an 05 lgt with the dual mass flywheel and a slipping clutch. i had a fidanza lwfw in my old n/a 2.5rs and i really liked it, but i dont know if it will be a little too much for my "stage 2" lgt.

It's a matter of where you drive/conditions. Having just taken a trip up and down the Eastern Seaboard, I can say if you live anywhere Northeast of Richmond, VA stay away from the super-light flywheels if you daily drive your car. The traffic and start-stops are just a royal PITA with a LWFW IMO. SMFW is the way to go if you are in those situations.
