Osei Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Are the intake manifolds different on the Phase 1 and 2 2.2, so much so that they won't bolt? I ask because I don't understand why you can't use a phase 2 (99-01) in an earlier unit, IF you can swap the intake manifold with it's harness to the earlier unit, and swap crank and cam sensors. If not, then I understand. The only difference I can see are the CTS units. The phase 1 uses a separate unit for the gauge, while the phase 2 is only one and the other hole is plugged. Just removing the plug and using the sensors from the phase 1 will match it's harness.( which I just did to DOHC a 99 2.2, but of course I swapped heads, which you shouldn't need to since they're both SOHC). O.
johnegg Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 yes, the intake manifolds on the phase 1 and phase 2 ej22s are different. some of the sensors are different, the TPS is one, and the 2 temps. so they do not swap. but the phase 2 ej22 and the phase 2 ej25 intakes will swap. they were smart enough when the changed the ej22 phase 2 head design to make compatible with the ej25. too bad they quit making the ej22 in the US in 01. it might be possible to swap the wire harness off of the intake, along with the throttle body and get an engine to run. cam and crank sprockets are different too, so they would need to be swapped as well. but that would leave very few sensors as a mis-match, IAC maybe and the 2 temps. i do not know anything about the fuel lines and what if any difference they might make.
