Datsik
Have this annoying leak at a flange connection between the main cat and resonator. There isnt much room between the cat and resonator and the joint is really crusty and seems like its going to be a manor PITA to fix. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas to help me out. Need to get this car inspected and it will fail if i dont fix this before i bring it in. Looks like the previous owner took some steel wire and wrapped the two pieces together in some really half assed attempt to fix the leak. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/24/9uqy6eve.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/24/3ute6amu.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/24/utejequ2.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/24/ahu7a8ys.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/24/ujetuna9.jpg
DGR81
You could try to welded together or replace it.

Ivant
Looks like it's had it's day. Get it cut out and have a bit of pipe welded in. It's no good patching it up, it will just keep playing up and costing you money. Get it fixed properly so you won't have to worry about it anymore. IrishLt
If you're trying to stay cheap....you could get a recip saw in there and cut super close to the flange. That should leave you enough pipe after the cat and before the resonator to get a coupler in there and have the clamps still have something to bite to. But personally, I agree with the pull/weld/replace mentality....I would check the welds on the cat as well while in there because chances are that they've seen the same torture that flange has. DGR81
Is it broken off or is it just cracked?

I can do everything besides weld a new coupling i dont weld so weld shop might rip me off
Datsik
Is it broken off or is it just cracked? It looks like the metal gasket between the two flanges is completely rotted out, and the flanges themselves were pretty much crumbling and the fasteners were pretty bad too. So maybe i can cut the fastners and try to clean it up and put in a new gasket with some high temp gasket maker or sealant and make a really good seal. I guess i should probably wait until after it gets out of the shop on nov 6 though cause having them put a new clutch in it and they are probably going to be yanking on the downpipe and other parts to get in there and i dont want to do all this for nothing

Zues Marine
i cant see cutting and replacing 8" of piping costing more than an hour's labor at an exhaust shop $30-$

subikid90
Why dont you cut the flange out and use a section of pipe from an auto parts store and clamp it with exhaust clamps. Ghetto, but cheap, easy and will work just fine. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
