LegacyGTFan2192
Hello everyone! I've never owned a Subaru before and my last car was a piece of junk and was recently totaled by some thieves. I'm looking to buy an 07 Gt I found near me... This is what the owner told me: "I'll give you the bad and the good about the car so there are no surprises. First the bad, 1. The exterior does have a few small dings, and the front bumper area has small stone chips in the paint. - Nothing major, and with the miles this is normal, I just wanted you to know. 2. The air conditioning does need recharged, - being in northern NY throughout the summer I never bothered to get it recharged, but you probably will want to in Ohio. 3. The car will occasionally throw a check engine light (a pretty common occurrence, if you know Subaru's) I have had the car to several mechanics to get it checked out and none of them could nail down the problem. The codes are, P0021 Intake Camshaft Position Timing - Over-Advanced (Bank 2) — P2093 OCV Solenoid Valve Signal A Circuit Short (Bank 2) I had new OCV valves installed on both sides, and that helped, but the light does still come on occasionally. The engine runs fine." Now, I don't know much about cars...but he is asking about 11k for it and it has 138k miles...and has those issues. Has new tires and is fully loaded. I need to know roughly what issues to expect over the next 4-5 years, how much the above things might cost me, and am I better off with a lower mileage 05gt? GEE-OTTO
If its having oiling issues it could be as complex as the oil passage are gummed up due to some event or as simple as long oil change intervals. IF you are really into the the car have a Subaru shop go over it once before deciding to buy. It varies in price my local shop (MachV) charges a flat fee i I think its $90 or $109, they check out the major issues and the little ones that you may not think of and tell you if x issue is a deal breaker or not. High miles dont equal bad car remember that but it may mean there are some interior squeaks or paint chips/dings etc .For that mileage you want a stout drive train and overall good body/interior. dgoodhue
A check engine light that a mechanic can't fix is not normal for a Subaru. It should be priced accordingly.
