LegacyDan
So had my 2nd trackday this month, it was great fun but again i wasn't prepared for it. My thinking was just take the car out in standard daily driving form to test its limits and learn more how to control it. Some of you referred to the track as a karting track, short and tight, only 2.4 miles http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d6/Mondello_Park_v2.svg/435px-Mondello_Park_v2.svg.png Braking- EBC bluestuff NDX pads, are not a trackday worthy pad! When they get hot they melt onto the rotor surface glazing over the surface making the brakes not so effective under hard braking Suspension - Lots of whiteline goodies added over the last few weeks Whiteline antilift kit Whiteline bump steer correction kit Whiteline front and rear sway bars Perrin urethane front and rear endlinks Avo Reinforcement rear sway bar mounts Never got a chance to get alignment fully done but they helped tighten things up a lot. STI pink springs are a bit too soft and dived under hard braking. I have some H&R springs to go on hopefully they are a bit more progressive under load. Tires - Probably unknown to you guys Matador MP46 summer tires, fine for road use, no grip when warmed up to track temps and caused a lot of understeer, they were predictable though so you could slide around on them nicely before they let go. Tune - still a work in progress but performing safely with no knock, probably some more timing to be squeezed out of it and MAF scaling needs a bit of tweaking to be spot on, knock detector was picking up some phantom knock sometimes when i changed gears which was annoying! Seats - spec b leather seats not so supportive for track use! Camera's - i only had one Gopro hero2 so angles were not the best and audio is shitty without an external mic, also had a smaller HD camera mounted on the headrest, which got some ok footage along with my swearing to trash talk! ideally i would like to get some GPS device G meter for track over etc for laptimes embedded in the video with multiple viewing angles synced, Next private club trackday i know of is February so plenty of time to organize myself! Still a lot to learn and it would be nice to test out the legacy on a bigger track, maybe a trip to the nurburgring or Silverstone! All in all a great day and addictive as hell, it was goof to push the new engine and see how it performed. No crazy oil consumption or lifting heads or coolant use. specialB
Sounds like a fun day nonetheless. Granted the pads sucked for what you were doing, it's tough to find that happy medium between daily driver and track racer. I'm currently running pinks and their borderline too stiff for the tri-state area but they're lovely on the highway and great on nice twisty upstate NY roads. But I could see where they are not supreme for track day conditions. For tires, if you plan to track often, get yourself a lightweight set of 17's and some dedicated rubber. This is where you will find your biggest advantages on the track. I didn't get a chance to see your videos but I bet it was an awesome day. -cheers! LegacyDan
i tried to source some cheap second hand rubber for my stock 17's but no decent supply available before the track day, only option was a set of part worn rally slicks, which i thought would be useless on track since this is Ireland and you are usually guaranteed some rain(which never happened, it was 20c most of the day and bone dry!) i didnt have the 800-900 dollars to splash out on dedicated track rubber that might only see 4-5 uses a year. I found some stocks of stuff after talking with some other local track veterans, so i will have that organized for next trackday.
StoplightAssassin
Keep your hands at 10 - 2 or 9 - 3. Try to be smooth. Jerking the wheel around in a Legacy almost always results in understeer. Get that alignment asap. It can really help change the character of the car.
fredrik94087
That is a nice looking legacy. "It's within spec" - SOA "Depth is only shallowness viewed from the side." - Fredism "So, how much did it cost for your car to be undriveable ." - Stephen (very close friend) "You have done so much it would be stupid to go back." - Sunny of Guru Electronics 2018Q50RS | 2015WrxThread | Shrek
GipsySpec.B
Gorgeous car! cool vids. How are you liking that Tomioka TD05-20g Twinscroll? I tried finding a build thread from you but no luck.
