Malfunctioning Automatic Seat Belt... help?

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, I have a 1994 Subaru Legacy that's seen better days, but I'm still keeping the poor thing on the road. For the last few months the driver's side automatic seat belt has been malfunctioning. More accurately, it only seems to function every once in a while. My question is, where is the trigger of the door opening or closing registered/wired so I can see if there's an issue there?

When I get a chance I'll also be checking the power/control unit on it in the trunk but I think it's likely something in the wiring closer to the driver's side door itself/in the door. There used to be a rubber plunger/plug on the door's inside edge that fell out but I'm not sure if that's related --whatever it was covering fell into the door itself. I should also note that my stepfather added and removed stereo equipment a few times, so the odds of something behind the panel is pretty good, in my opinion at least.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! (PS: I have the wiring diagram from here http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/, but that doesn't really help me much I'm afraid.)

I didn't get a chance to dig around into this issue, but soon I hope. It drives me nuts because the cops around here will stop you if you appear not to be wearing a shoulder belt. I would have the shoulder belt up but the clip is locked in the "open" position. :p

Do you mean this particular item? If so, I actually was quite certain that was the issue but the rubber boot went missing and I was having difficult identifying the remaining parts, which I still have after pulling off the inside trim and fishing the darn thing out.
