Jmcstay
Driving to work this morning, only about an 8 mile commute one way. About a mile in I started to feel a difference in the way my clutch felt. Figured I would keep an eye on it and check on it once I got to work, it almost felt like it was stalling out when I started off in first gear. The problem quickly got worse, I was hearing a nasty whining sound when I was using the clutch and it was starting to produce a burning smell. Keep in mind I've had this car for under a month, haven't even put 400 miles on it. Long story short about a mile away from my work I got stuck behind a line of cars because there was a construction detail. The whole car began to vibrate very aggressively, the clutch was stuck to the floor while vibrating and you could see the transmission was shaking just as bad. It felt like an earthquake throughout my whole car. Right before I was able to get out and push it off the road I heard what sounded like a bearing falling out or something to that extent.. It made me cringe. Worst sound I've ever heard a car make. The car would not go into gear once I pushed it off the road. My Subi is now sitting in my mechanic's shop ripped apart and waiting for parts to come tomorrow morning. I haven't been able to talk to him tonight after work but has anyone had this happen before? Should I be expecting to pay a bit more of a chunk of change then I am already expecting with the bearing replacement. Thanks in advance!
xt2005bonbon
It could certainly be your throw out bearing that failed. Hopefully, it did not take the transmission snout with it. Try replacing your oem tob with a tsk3 kit. It is a better design throw out bearing which can prevent damage to your trans snout. Go to the Trans subforum and do a couple searches. You'll see what I am talking about.
Gex
If you destroyed the transmission snout input shaft it could mean a new transmission. Look into the tsk3 snout kit. It is available on Fred beans. Might as well put in a new clutch.
Jmcstay
Thank you both for the input. I'm looking into the Tsk3 now.

Have it diagnosed before you buy anything. Oh, and go to church this Sunday and pray.
Underdog
Where in MA are you located? Let me know if I can be of any help. I can also supply the TSK3 kit if it turns out you need it. The Crimson Dynamo

Jmcstay
I'm waiting to hear the diagnosis, hopefully soon. I'm located just outside of Worcester Underdog, Marlborough to be exact.

Jmcstay
Got the news and my worst fear was confirmed.. Transmission is toast, bearing shot through the transmission. That being said...when I purchased the car in order to receive the loan I was required to purchase a 2 year warranty for just under 2 grand. At the time I was quite po'd that I was REQUIRED in order to get the loan. It was factored into the loan amount. LUCKILY this is covered not only by the warranty but by the 30 day required dealer warranty. I feel like a hit the lottery, they are replacing the transmission with a brand new one as well as a whole new clutch free of charge. Seems that paying an extra 2 grand for the warranty is going to save me thousands.

xt2005bonbon
This is awesome! Though I would still install the tsk3 kit so as to avoid this from happening again.
Max Capacity
Also I would recommend the TSK3 kit. Also have them grease the starter shaft while it's out. When the temps get to 20F the gears can hang up for a few seconds after you start the car when cold. Ask them if they will re-surface the flywheel ? The car should have a dual mass if it's stock. You'll want to replace that with a 07-09 single mass FW. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Jmcstay
I absolutely hate "warranties." Obviously factory warranties are different but anyways.. 3 weeks later and my car is still sitting in the shop waiting to be worked on. Warranty company dragged it's feet. Finally came out on Friday and dun dun dun.. denied the claim AFTER telling me it would be covered. That's a whole separate issue in itself, the reason I'm posting is because I'm wondering if any of you guys have experience with lemon laws, particularly Massachusetts but any knowledge is good. Under Massachusetts law, all mechanical defects for cars with somewhere around 90-130k are covered at the dealers expense for the first 30 days. The time frame ranges for different miles. I think it jumps to 60 and then 90 days for cars with fewer miles but that's beside the point. The used car dealer now after back pedaling and obviously trying to get out as cheap as possible wants to put in a transmission with 186,000 miles, almost double the miles from my original. They had originally told me it was only 80,000 miles but my mechanic didn't trust them so he called down himself and discovered the actual mileage. I have already found the transmission I want to be in my car with help from my mechanic which is obviously more money then they want to pay. There is no way I am letting them put in that transmission especially because they want to take it to their shop and do it all themselves so I am trying to negotiate a fair price for what it would cost them to fix my car including a new clutch. They are coming out about a thousand short of what it's actually going to cost me but at this point I just want my car back so if they will pay the other couple grand I'm just going to pay the difference. This has been an absolute nightmare.. Now just waiting to hear the verdict.
__raj
Your $2k warranty for a loan is likely a lie. Is it their loan? They extorted $2k out of ya. Get your money back if possible. What dirt bag dealer did this to you, was it small lot or real car dealer? Many of those warranties do allow you to refund the money. The 30 day should cover it but not sure on getting brand new parts.
