bballdude1414
gotta put new rotors on before winter comes because i dont wanna be putting them on in 1 foot of snow. Just wondering if slotted rotors are really worth it or are they basically just for looks. Got two options here, go basic with the rotors and upgrade the pads with hawk or EBC, or upgrade to slotted rotors and get decent pads for now. what ya guys think?? lockmedic
On a street car, they're for looks. Spend money on the pads. . .rotors are pretty low-tech unless you count the rust inhibiting finishes they use on some of them.
KartRacerBoy
Slotted might be nice in the rain (gets rid of more water between pad and rotor than unslotted rotors), but really that ^.
babybaluga32
If you drive up and down hills a lot I would go slotted otherwise with the amount of power your car has slotted seems over done and being that they would be the same size with no stopping increase really it would also be a waste. I'd get pads. If you turbo it then you could get slotted and it would make more sense 8)
dshive
brake pads will make a bigger difference
subikid90
Slotted rotors will make your pads wear faster. They are a complete waste of money with the stock brakes on these cars. Buy quality solid rotors and high quality pads. Replace your brake fluid also, it will make a difference. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
Bassnectar
if you want quality rotors Napa ultra premium with some EBC Green / Red pads. Cheap slotted rotors will develop runout before cheap solid rotors will. A quality solid rotor will give you longest life. and ya change your fluid Bleed all 4 corners even if just changing front brakes, you can upgrade to dot 4 fluid if you want. My car came with motul DOT 5.1, but my ABS would pulse slowly in the winter, so I would stick 3,4. I have a stage 2 03 wrx engine.... solid rotors are fine for me I can lock my brakes up when needed and have never noticed brake fade. the biggest bang for your buck in upgrading front rotors, will be to order/obtain from junkyard, a 2000-2004 legacy gt front caliper bracket, this allows you to use 11.4" rotors instead of 10.9 - Bigger rotor, better heat dissipation(cooling)
