Coilovers instal no loud knocking in the rear.

Recommended Posts

Hi this is my first post here and I have a slight issue. Forgive me if this has been covered somewhere but I can't seem to find an answer.

- I put wrx raceland coilovers on my 1996 legacy Brighton wagon a couple days ago and at first were fine rode fine but when the springs settled Alittle it was too low in the rear. So I raised the back up to a decent height. When I test drove it I got a loud knocking sound coming from the rear struts. Which seemed really strange. I then lowered it back down just over where it was initially set and the knocking just about completely went away but on large dips and bumps I still get the loud metal on metal clunk. I checked all the bolts in the top of the strut tower an everything is snug and checked bottom bolts on both sides. There was zero play in either coil. So I'm stumped. I want to do an alignment but don't want to do it until I figure this out. What bothers me is it was fine the whole first day until the adjustments now this annoying clunk.

- I know racelands don't have e best rep but I had them on my mk2 Gti for four years with zero issues and only 1997 BMW 328i with zero issues for two years. Anything helps thanks. - noob

Hey thanks! So i started to take Off the dust cover to adjust the rear struts and the upper one of the upper mount bolt broke in half. So i called raceland and they are sending me a new rear strut. I dont think that had anything to do with the clunk but well see. I have the stock suspension on now. I think ill give it another shot when they come in on tues...

Im also thinking of selling the racelands and installing H&R sport springs and new struts. Thoughts? These coils were a nightmare an i only had em on for less than a week . <PS the title of the thread should have been "Coilover Install now Loud knocking from the rear" Not "No" haha.

Daily driver+nice spring and strut combo.

Weekend track car+better coilover setup than racelands.

Yeah im with you. I have the stock suspension back on.. rides great, but in the lowering process blew a front cv boot/ axle. :/ Im going to sell the coilovers as soon as i re-build the strut an get either H&R super lows or sport springs or tien springs... Always gone with the h&R's any suggestions?

I haven't lowered any of my subarus...yet. lol, but its going to happen with my 1st gen hopefully as soon as get what I need for a rear control arm/link setup. I'm in literal fork in the road as to what I want to do with it but from what goes around is that the kyb excels and h+r's are the way to go if you don't want to chip your teeth everytime you hit a bump. I'm going to be requiring all struts for this car and was thinking about racelands (cheaper than strut/spring combos) until I can save some real cash. If your selling your racelands how much you asking? Word of mouth deters me but im a gambler:) not sure if they work in 1st gen Lego's though.

Update: so I got the top hat from raceland pretty quick. Decided to give the coils another shot seeing as how I already had them an didn't want to loose more$$$$$$$. So I re installed and the rear springs are all the way up an so are the rear struts. The bottom of the adjustable strut is flush. Rides pretty good an stiff but the upper adjustable plates are rubbing on the drivers side rear tire.. There are About 2 inches of thread to go down in the rear an about 1.5 in the front. I like the height. Guess ill have to get the white line rear camber bushings to adjust the strange and un equal camber I have going on in the rear... Any input would be rad.. Thanks

Has it been aligned yet? Should be able to correct it, how much did it drop with those.

Not aligned yet. waiting to get the camber in the rear and the ride height set how i want first. So far its dropped pretty low. with a ton more threads to go down. Just wanna get this rubbing situation handled.
