duffney
I've got the engine of my 1998 Subaru Legacy GT removed without breaking anything. Score. But now it's time to remove the timing belt from the manual it looks to be a complicated process, I was hoping a few people might have some advice or tips on removing this correctly. johnegg
turn the crank by hand (7/8 inch or 22mm socket and ratchet) untill the crank sprocket is lined up with the timing mark. the crank sprocket timing mark is on one of the TABS on the rear of the sprocket. it is NOT on the front face of the sprocket. when the crank is lined up correctly, the key way in the crank shaft is pointing straight down. once you have this lined up, nothing else matters. the pistons are in a safe position and the cams / valves should not be an issue. is this what you wanted to know?
