Pennyless
I just got my motor back from the builder and I'm getting ready to put it back together. I never thought to ask about the valves as I was going to leave them alone but I decided to go all in. Come to find out, they replaced 1 valve and the valve guides were worn. Am I going to have to re shim the head with new buckets? I'm also short the seals for the coolant cross over tube so I guess they will be a special order from subaru. I made the major mistake of not reading the ad for the CP pistons and I had to wait a week for the wrist pin clips to come in from subaru.
jp233
You should always check the clearances when the heads are rebuilt. It's not difficult, and chances are they will be OK or you only may need to order a few buckets if that. What seals are you missing? (I'm not remembering what's called the coolant cross-over tube - do you mean the one that lays on top of the shortblock?)
Max Capacity
If you orderedthe OEM gasket kit and they were missing, I would think the dealer should give them to you, and have Subaru pay for them. You got me thinking now, I can't remember replacing them...I'm sure I did... 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).
