Sti struts on Outback

Recommended Posts

I got an alignment recently on my 99 outback and I was informeded that one of my rear struts is blown and the other is rusted to hell. They said they could fix it then for around $700, I thought that was too much so i said not now. I don't have very much experiance working on cars but I do sort of know my way around a wrench and I have a very good friend that has a lot of experiance working on cars, so I am thinking I will try doing the work myself. I am wondering what kind of suspension upgrades I can do to make my car less of an old man's outback. I'm here to ask If any one has put Sti Struts on an outback? How much will it lower the car? And mainly will my new 205/70/15 tires still fit? I know that the Sti sturts are around a 1 inch drop for a legacy but I am not sure where the raise in ride hight over a standerd legacy is in an Outback. Im sorry if this is a little rambly and thanks for reading.

I guess I am just considering them and wondering if they will work so I can look at all my options. I can get a full set pretty cheap ($400 or so on eBay) and I figured it would be a good performance mod. I really don't want to lower it I just want less body roll. So I suppose that I should just get a bigger rear anti roll bar and new oem struts but that total will still come out to be around $400 I think.

Here are the OEM struts I found I any one knows any other places I should look I would really apreciate it.

Hello;

I would try and find a good used pair from a junkyard or a pull and pay. How good was the handling with a blown strut? Thinking I would have caught this before spending money on a alignment. Steven.

I would like to go grab some from a junkyard, that way i can grab a new tail light while I'm at it, thanks for the idea.

As for the handling, if feels pretty boaty, but It has been that way sense I got it not too long ago so I probably bought it that way.

I also shelled out for the lifetime alignment so I just take it back and get it redone for no charge.
