ClickJacker
I just ordered a set of oem fog lights and switch for my 99 Brighton. Can anyone tell me for sure if this year came pre wired for fogs before I go ripping my car apart?
stevenva
I know that my 96 did not come prewired. Not sure about the 99? RIP 96 Legacy 2.2 4EAT lost reverse @ 374,000 miles
Zues Marine
if fogs were not an OEM option for your submodel and year combo.. then it wont have wiring in there for stock fogs.. check out http://www.cars101.com/subaru_legacy_archive98_99.html#1999 L, brighton specs for info about your year
Stevo F
Interesting- according to the guide at the link above, as for Brighton & L models it would appear fog lights were optional for '95, not available for '96 or '97, optional for '98, and not available (or at least not mentioned) for '99- I'm guessing there is an error in there somewhere. Although it would be nice if my '98 is truly pre-wired for fogs.

monkeyposeur
I have combed over a ton of subarus in the salvage yards looking for fog light harnesses and this is what I have found. I found one 95 LSi that had fogs from the factory. The wiring harness was not separate from the main chassis harness. I never found any 95s that were pre wired. In fact the only model that I ever found that was pre wired for fogs with a separate wiring harness for the fogs was a 96 LSi that didn't have any fogs installed. Apparently they were an option so they were pre wired. I never found any other models that were pre-wired with a separate harness.
ClickJacker
So how would I go about wiring my lights up then? Does any where sale a kit or something? Or will I have to wire it myself?
monkeyposeur
SBT bought a complete fog light kit from Subaruparts.com but I don't know if they still carry it. You can always buy the projector fogs on ebay for about $40 each and build a wiring harness for them. Here is a good diy from NASIOC: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2234607 All you would need to do is hook a lead to your positive battery terminal and a ground wire to the chassis and run them through the firewall to whatever switch you want to use with a relay. I may have an extra OEM fog light switch laying around somewhere. I could look if you want. I have the separate wiring harness with fog lights. I just haven't been able to find the time to install them. I bought my fogs on ebay and they are pretty scratched up. I want to polish them but it will be time consuming. I wish I would have just bought nicer fogs in the first place but oh well. I posted pics of the wiring harness here: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/fog-light-switch-wiring-187368.html

twisty
found that a while ago when trying to explain to my son how to wire up fogs for one of our projects. the only thing i dont like is there is no fuse on the ACC positive line to the switch. also, i like illuminated switches, so i use this http://www.team-integra.net/images/BAEC1978-D3A7-4405-AB2D-2761DC15A96D/articles/electrical/lighted_switch_wiring.jpg instead of the switch and indicator light separately. vehicle wiring has always been a hobby of mine since i was a kid, but its also part of my job as an industrial programmer. i also do low voltage control wiring. sometimes the restrictions and isolation i have to incorporate at work make my vehicle projects much more confounded and more difficult than they need to be lol

ClickJacker
ok so I got everything wired up but can't figure out where the ign/battery power goes. Is that the fuse box under the hood or dash?
Zues Marine
you can just run an inline fuse in a wire straight off the battery if you want to stay out of the fuse box
Zues Marine
otherwise the 12v constant/IGN wire should be blue/red
