whiteknight24
Any ideas on a great HID kit for my Subie? I would like 4500k. Thanks,
valkrie hunter
idk if they're still alive but ddmtuning.com If you have more cash to spend and don't mind opening up your headlight, you can get a better light dispersion and pattern via retrofitting a HID projector to replace the halogen projector. Check out theretrofitsource.com if you want to continue the later route.
Claw
DDMs suck. You get what you pay for. I'd go TRS over DDM any day. More money, but higher quality and Nate stands behind his product.
zippob98
TRS is the way to go. I saw a video of a TRS ballast with a phillips bulb vs a cheapo ballast with the same bulb, and the light output was much better and more uniform with the TRS ballast. Plus if something goes wrong with them, TRS will take care of it. I have had multiple instances of getting cheapo's on ebay and having one of them stop working after a week. Then you go through this entire process to get them replaced...if you are lucky you get the replacement like 6 weeks after. Its just not worth it. TRS you call up, say one of them doesn't work, and you will get a new one before you can say "holy-oncoming-HID-glare". If you do end up getting HID's, be sure to mount them someplace that you can service them without taking the car apart. I was about to mount my ballasts under the headlight housing itself, but then realized that if something went wrong I would have to take off the front bumper to get to them. But having said all of that, I actually feel pretty confident that I could mount the TRS ballasts in a lock box that only James Franco could open. And you know how hard it is to get a hold of James Franco these days.
whiteknight24
Thank you very much. Many people have stated that the TRS kit is the best kit. I have DDM tuning HID kit in my subie right now and one of the bulbs just blew and I'm pissed. But I guess you get what you pay for. So soon I'm going to buy a HID kit from TRS. I think its the best choice.
jhow257415
You should check out Volt HID's, I purchased the for the Legacy from xenonexpert who is right here on our forum. Got the 4300k and they look very classy. Have been very reliable (been a few years), so happy that I also put them on my 08 impreza! http://www.xenonexpert.com/volt-hid-conversion-kit/
dspurgin22
I went with a kit from Diode Dynamics, pretty sure they are a vendor on here, but I went with their 4300k and I love them so far. There is absolutely no blue or any hint of color in the HID. They are exactly what I wanted and I highly recommend them. http://www.diodedynamics.com/store/led-bulbs/listed-by-vehicle/subaru-1/legacy/2003-2013-subaru-legacy-low-beam-hid-conversion-kit.html

whiteknight24
So I'm getting the TRS HID kit. Should I go with the phillips bulbs in the HID kit or Osram bulbs? Or is the Morimoto bulbs just as good?
SubieMonkey
TRS ALL DAY. Nothing beats Morimoto. I've bought at least 5 different HID setups from different companies and hands down these are the brightest and best looking. 4300K is best brightness and color look IMO. Good luck. havanahjoe
I bought a DDM Tuning 5000k kit 3 years ago and I have only had a ballast go out a few months ago. Lucky for me, they are right here in San Diego, so I just stopped by and they replaced the bad ballast with a new one. I had to pay $10 to get an upgraded ballast (the one I had was apparently a bad batch), but for a total of $37 for 3 years, I cannot think of a better value. And they're still under warranty if something breaks! They do take longer to warm up than most HIDs, but I can't complain. Now I am considering looking into going bi-xenon. Is that doable with DRLs on an 08? I'll just have to do some reading.

With the TRS, the lows will bixenons (low- and high-beam function), but the wiring harness that comes with the TRS also allows you to use your stock highs + bixenon highs simultaneously.
