Dam itz Lou
So I bought a package deal from KNS Brakes back on 6/6. I went for a oil change at the car wash today and the guy tells me my pads are low. I've probably put about 7-800 miles on them tops. Has anyone else had this problem ? I'm going to my mechanic tomorrow or tuesday to see if the guy at the car wash was just trying to get me for some money.
Captain Ned
If you'd ground through that much pad in 800 miles (or even 8,000 miles assuming you missed a zero) your wheels and the sides of your car would be coated in brake dust. No need to go the mechanic, just get out the jack and take one front wheel off. It's easy to see how much pad is left. Dude at the car wash recognized and wanted your upgraded pads and didn't want to pay for them. Classic bait 'n' switch technique from unscrupulous types. rtbrjason
These pads sucked for me.. But they lasted more than 800 miles.. Sounds like someones trying to sell you some work. How does it feel when you're stopping?
Dam itz Lou
He was telling me my wheels were covered in brake dust but I also hadn't gotten a car wash in over 2 weeks. Most of my driving is in the city but I don't drive much. I maybe do 20 miles a day during the work week. Brakes seem fine to me when i'm stopping. Brady
Just pull the wheel and check the pads. Also, if he was just looking at the rear pads, he might be a dork and not realize that those start off thinner. I had that happen last week. Guy was telling me how the front pads looked brand new, but the rears probably needed to be replaced soon. Go figure.
Max Capacity
If you have 5 spoke wheels on your 2.5i just roll the car till you can look in and see how much pad is left, its pretty easy. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. AZP Installs
He may have seen the dust and assumed they were low, not realizing they are more dusty than the run of the mill pads on cars. You may have a sticking caliper that is wearing one side down, but if it's braking fine that's not likely the case. Most likely just wanted to sell you a brake job (if they do that at the car wash?) -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts.
