Case Study: Cheap "ProTunes"

Recommended Posts

In the automotive world, more times than not you get what you pay for. This past weekend we had a customer come in with driveability complaints on another tuner's tune (who shall remain unnamed) and wanted to give us a shot.

In cases like this when no parts were added just tuning only we like to provide the customer a baseline pull to see where what they started with. What we found was shocking and bad enough to end the pull early as the map was completely unsafe.

Thankfully we were able to save this car's motor before catastrophic damage had occurred.

Dashed lines are the base pull, solid is our final.

Fixed another car today. This time a 2005 Legacy GT 5eat, FMIC, TBE, EWG, Intake. Dead boost controller so running wastegate boost, 17psi. Old tune 23psi.

Only change was the tune.

nicely done, are you able to share what the driveability issues were that you addressed?

I can only speak for the first car as I wasn't at the shop when the second car came in.

But not smooth a smooth powerband/choppy. Which as you can see in the before graph the car was not happy at all.
