ktm200
So got a pretty big crack in my windshield yesterday and will need to be replaced. I called a few places and the best quote I came up with was from safelite. $288+tax, includes moldings and labor $473+tax for an oem windshield, includes moldings and labor I was told the cheaper aftermarket option includes the heating element for my gt limited as well as the tint strip at the top of the windshield. Has anyone had any experience with aftermarket replacement glass? Is there anything substantially different to justify the oem cost? Are the tint strip and heating element the same? Thanks for any help. Damn insurance wont cover it as its cheaper than the $500 deductible I have. So much for comprehensive insurance. . . . PearlBlueGT
we have aftermarket windshield installed, it's just as good as oem.
apexi
I've had a safelite windshield installed for 3.5 years and somewhere around 85k, I haven't had any problems with mine. I've read a lot of things online about safelite windshields being poor quality, but like I said I have zero complaints about mine.
rob-2
I would rather go cheaper and replace more often. It's what I've done on my cars. Still have OEM on the subi at 101K.

ktm200
Any glass recommendations other than safelite? Just 30mins poking around, have seen an awful lot of complaints on the safelite stuff, mainly warping in the windshields making it difficult to look through. PearlBlueGT
Im sure there's more local windshield replacement places around your area, call around, ask what kind of warranty they offer and which brand glass they install.
IGW
I have used SGC (safelite) glass before and I don't like the fitment. Sometime the curve of the glass isn't correct and it dosent meet the body like it should. I also have seen ALOTTTT of distorted windshields from them

GTPpilot
I don't know if Glass America has a shop up your way. They just did my windshield. Seems fine. They could have done a better job installing the molding around the windshield, but whatever. The heating elements in the glass appear to be in the glass now vs. on top of the glass like my oem was. At first I thought they put the wrong windshield in it. I had a rock hit the new one the other day and it definitely had a different sound to it. Since my insurance pays 100%, I'll just keep replacing as needed. It's nice to have a new, clear windshield !!
