monkeyposeur
You probably have a bolt still attached. Double and triple check. There is a little bolt that is an inch or so above where the oil pan bolts on towards the front that is easy to miss. Did you remove the pistons yet? If not do so. Get a rubber mallet and smack it good. Or you can remove the piston wrist pin access holes (don't mess up the threads) and shove a couple long rods in there and turn the crank. The rods will split the block apart. Good thread from NASIOC: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1294884
legy outback
alrighty, triple checked on the bolts and they are all gone. the problem that presents itself now is that we can not get the pistons out because either the crank is frozen in there or something of the like, and therefore we can't turn it to get the pistons out of the little access holes they provide
johnegg
splitting the block is not going to get the pistons out either. you will still need to line the wrist pins up with the access hole. and if the crank is seized why are you messing with it in the first place? it is way cheaper to buy an engine with a busted timing belt and swap your heads onto the block.
