So who has Lyme Disease?

Recommended Posts

I was diagnosed last March, my life is all screwed up. I'm not the same. I was reading that the bacteria responsible for the illness was accidently set loose off Plum Island at a military research center off the coast of MA.

If you have been diagnosed with this I'd be interested to hear how you are feeling and how long it took you to feel "normal".

Sorry to hear you're still fighting it.

I've been on antibiotics for 10 days now for Lyme... about a month ago, I had a week of fever, fatigue then recently followed by bulls eye rashes all over. Two days into the antibiotics, my fever and rash cleared up. Fatigue still comes and goes, but getting better.

Hope you get over it quick dude, it would seriously f you up long term.

My neighbors son had it and they didnt diagnose it until it had been in his system for a very long time. Needless to say, he's pretty f'd up. He can't watch TV or go in a car because he dizzy by the quick light pulses and passing scenery. He started acting weird and even though is pretty harmless, the other neighbors are afraid of when he may snap and do something crazy. He basically sleeps all day and is awake in the late evening through the night cos of his sensitivity to light.

I went to bed March 9th feeling perfectly normal. I woke up on the 10th with a 102.5 fever, massive headache, I pretty much felt like someone had beat me senseless with a bat. I waited two days, the third day I went to the doctors. I was diagnosed with Lyme, double pneumonia and influenza type B. I was out of work for seven days. Here I am five months later still getting head and body aches, I'm so freaking tired all the time all I want to do is sleep. I have been reading that almost 20% of people never actually feel "normal" again.

Please heed my warning, if you do outdoor activity use something with DEET as a repellent. This seriously sucks. I think it's even affecting my thought process, I get panicky and can't think straight. I happened to google "lyme specialists in RI" and it turns out one of the hospitals here has a special lyme research and treatment center.

Here is what is scary; One researcher said the bacteria (Borrelia burgdorphi) is the master of disquise. It can transform itself to become undetectable, it can form this shpere around it to protect itself from treatment and can lay dormant for years and go undetected even if tested.

If you are positive for Lyme's disease (Also called Borrelia) you may also be tested for Anaplasma phagocytophilum since that's also tick borne.

Another bacteria is Rickettsia helvetica (first found in Switzerland) which has similar symptoms to Lyme's, and that can be the cause for Meningitis.

As I see it - ticks are self-propelled mobile biological weapons.

There are a TON of tick borne illnesses that they continue to find every year. Little bastards.

I have been bitten by 5-6 ticks over the course of my life. Last year, when i had constant head and back aches, i was finally tested for tick borne crap, whcih came back negative. I plan to get tested again at my next blood panel visit, just for confirmation.

My dad had lyme, but it was fairly benign. IIRC, there is an 'old lyme' and a new lyme disease that they kind of classify people into. One being more omni-present (symptom wise) than the other. Good luck with it man. From what i understand, it's fairly treatable, and they are working to get that 20% under control a bit more.

Here in Europe we have three completely different strains of Borrelia (Lyme), but all of them sucks.

I had it as a little kid back in the mid 80's. It went undiagnosed for a solid year. My knees were all screwed up to the point where I couldn't walk.

As far as I can tell I don't have any long term effects from lyme disease. After it was diagnosed and treated I recovered pretty quickly.

Yes I was reading the knee joints are a particular area that get attacked. Mine are fine at this moment. Have a doctor appt today, I'm not giving up because I can't live like this. Sometimes the internet has too much information but there was one article about the toxins left behind by the dead bactera and it needs to be flushed out.

Glad you recovered, I'm not loosing hope!

And the bad news is they moved Plum island facility to Kansas State University in the middle of cattle country.

Here is the documentary video that anyone that has this disease needs to watch.....
