Like the female couple who is on their 2nd 3rd or 4th Forester, and will likely have their adopted Vietnamese daughter grow up and own one eventually. Or the kid who had an old Loyale or Legacy in college and wants another because it got him home safely from the frat house when he was baked out of his mind. I don't think Subaru's success is a function of the "Love" marketing campaign. Saab always had a glitzy high powered marketing campaign. It didn't work for them. They even came out with innovative products, had an exhibition traveling driving team and used their aero heritage. Gire Posted July 5, 2013 Share Posted July 5, 2013 Saab was much more of a niche brand than Subaru ever was. Subaru doesn't need to make million dollar TV campaigns for their sporty cars like the WRX or STi because they have a strong following with those models already, and let print media and performance reviews do the talking. The rather spend their TV dollars on the Forester and Outback because they need to keep their market share strong in those categories and they are their volume movers, so the cost of big-media advertising is amortized over a larger volume of sale. They do have a great TV ad for the BRZ touting it's blast-to-drive sporting nature, but that's understandable because it's a brand new model that needs to be advertised in the largest way.
