2020 Legacy CVT with wrong fluid (maybe)
subiext replied to Southwestreasure's topic in Seventh Generation Legacy (2020 - )
The dealer only sells that fluid in 5 gallons. What did you pay for it? They also told me it's a lifetime fluid not needing to be changed??!! -
No issues yet.

I Just got a postcard about this. Getting ready to take a long trip with my 2 year old battery. Should I be concerned and if it goes down, do I need to keep all receipts?

Thanks.

It just sounds like a tire chirp. But I'll accept the CVT explanation.
-
So, does this fix the tire chirp when it's first put into gear?

Well, this morning my mechanic calls me and had a customer come in for a CVT fluid change. Since he cant buy the fluid in qts. he wants me to sell him some fluid out of my 5 gallon bucket I had to buy. Interesting.

No, both 14mm. Oil pan drain nut now an easy to spot brass Fumoto valve.

I didn't blame Subaru for anything. It would be nice to have a picture of the oil pan location in the manual. This is my first cvt vehicle.

My manual says to inspect the cvt fluid at 36,000 mi. or 3 years. Dealer says its a sealed system and the cvt is warrantied for 60,000 mi. My question is, if it is sealed, then why is there a drain nut on the fluid pan? And if you need to inspect it, how does one do it without draining some of the fluid? Also my car, the XT Turbo, takes the CVTF-LV(low viscosity) fluid. The quart size of this fluid is discontinued and you can only buy a 5 gallon bucket to the tune of $460!! Don't do like I did and loosen that cvt pan nut thinking it was the oil pan!! The real oil pan is conveniently tucked away and seems to be hidden.

No, under the passenger seats. It's not plastic. I think I found the part. It's called a floor pan splash shield. Left drivers side is part# 56411AN01A. Right rear is #56411AN00A. $94.23 @ parts.subaru.com.

Yesterday I had a curb run out in front of me and ran over it. Ripped out that cardboard underneath and it was dragging on the ground. I cut the loose piece off. Won't that thing deteriorate after awhile and eventually degrade? I'm sure a new replacement would be expensive.
