It's part of a trio of systems (Instrument Cluster, BIU, and ECU) that all have to work together for the car to function.

BIU usually is responsible for more of the car systems (outside the engine controls that the ECU manages).

The BIU is usually tucked under the dash and is hidden from general access.

Each of these three systems is coded for the VIN number of the car and the keys are matched.

So if one piece is replaced, they have to be resynced with the other parts and the keys.

Roger! I assume incorrect aftermarket wiring is akin to a static shock on a computer motherboard. 🍳

I have Weathertech liners in my other car, and  while they are nice and form fitting, one downside is they don't have stiff edges - so the edges fold inward with use and allow dirt to get in on the bottom and the sides. Since my WT mats are over 4 years old, don't know if WT addressed this, since that is what Smartliner is advertising. My Legacy  all-weather mats are OEM, and they are just "ok", the rear mat is all bent out of shape by the drivers seat.

Yep, the OEM are crap, when compared to the options.

I didnt Google crap, this is what's being taught at schools like UTI where i went to. you use the fuel that the manufacturer has tuned the engine for. so let's not be presumption as if you know me. lets stick to the facts of the subject and keep our opinions to ourselves

You know, opinions are like a$$holes - everyone's got one. Since you don't have a car with ASS - have you driven a recent Legacy with one? It is harsh and jerky, but if that floats your boat then enjoy. I would have skipped it if it could not be turned off, so natural kid that disabled it completely is great for me. I would have gladly paid more for a 6-speed vs CVT, an engine with slightly less turbo lag but it is what it is. Still love my ride.

Without trying to be too critical, your implication is somewhat "unwelcome" here.

The point seems lost on you, so you resort to absurd strawman argument about ABS. If ASS was such a similarly useful / popular feature, why does every major auto forum has a thread dedicated turning it off? Yep, you wish that you could have come up with bypass but you did not, whereas someone else did for multiple makes / models and is now raking in the $$$ from all of us rubes, who could have just pushed a button 😂

Lighten up. Don't take life so seriously.

I think I understood him just fine... and IMO what IS truly silly is manufacturers forcing unwanted / questionable "safety" electronic nanny and "environment-saving" start-stop features upon customers, who have to then resort to these workarounds just to get rid of them.

No, you misunderstood him. All I'm gonna say.
