  1. Just bought my old girl a few months ago. And like any old car with over 200,000 miles, she has some “quirks”. But on to the real question: The other day I decided to try the manual shift mode out. At first it worked just fine, and then it wouldn’t shift out if first when I had stopped. So I kicked it back to D, and it revved and wouldn’t shift out of first. So I kicked it back left (Sport mode) but didn’t move the shifter down, and it shifted beautifully on its own. I drove it like that for a few days, and then magically normal D started to work again. What the hell? No engine code ever popped. This is my work car and I’m a home health nurse, so I need to figure this out sooner than later. I appreciate any input. I have owned three foresters but this is my first Legacy/Outback and my first with this kind of auto transmission.
