  1. See TSB 04-17-17R. Replacing the rack's tension spring is something that a lot of people have done themselves; it's cheap and relatively easy. It does require a special tool, though.

Not trying to jack this thread, but after reading the TSB, does this special bit used to remove the screw come with the spring kit (part # referenced in the TSB)?

Assuming this has to be ordered from

    A dealer?

  2. I have had a rather loud/annoying rattle when I turn my car off and sometimes at idle…I have isolated it as inside of the factory muffler at the rear of the car. My guess is a baffle broke loose or a weld broke inside, etc…

Before it causes a larger issue, I figure I should just replace it as it seems pretty straight forward to replace. I would “prefer” to go OEM, but would rather not pay OEM price. I’m not looking for any more noise, performance, etc…Has anyone had good luck with a particular aftermarket muffler for these cars? I would like to retain the stock look (exhaust tip/exit location, etc.) I may try to find a low mileage one at a junkyard if I can find one…

    Thanks!

  3. I have a 17 Legacy Limited. I have noticed my HVAC blower has started to make what sounds like bearing noise. I am mechanically inclined and have seen the process of swapping the fan out to be relatively straight forward.

My question lies with the replacement blower, itself. The factory blower from Subaru is approx. $120. I have seen aftermarket ones in the range of $70ish. I have an extended warranty on this car that will cover the repair, but has a $100 deductible. I have no problem with doing the repair myself IF the aftermarket fans are of quality. I don’t feel like changing it out with aftermarket and it start to make noise in a year. Has anyone had good luck with aftermarket fans and if so, could you send me a link of the one you used? Should I just have the garage do it with a factory replacement and pay more?

    Thanks!

  4. Yes...as others have stated if your new wheels have TPMS sensors, you’ll need to take the car to a tire shop to have them re-calibrated every time you swap wheels for the season. I have WRX wheels with winter tires and the stock 18’s with summer tires.

It only takes like 5 mins to do and my local tire shop does it for free for me...
