  1. Been a minute since I visited this thread. I still have done anything with the car. It’s just sitting in the back yard right now. Anyone know where I can either get a new or used motor in or around Atlanta? Or a good place that can build a motor for me? I haven’t given up on it yet. I want to get it going again so my daughter can start driving it next summer when she gets her license.
  2. Thanks guys for the info. I assume the block is junk due to it being overheated and possibly needing to be bored? With it being the semi closed deck design and the cylinders being thin already it's not worth the risk to try and bore it?
  3. Hey folks. My son ran my ran my 2005 Legecy 2.5 GT DOHC Turbo wagon hot last week till it stopped running. . It's at minimum popped the head gasket since water came out when I took the first plug out out and had more water in the oil pan then it had oil. So I'm contemplating on rebuilding what I have or bite the bullet and get a new long block. My question is what type engine I have? The block has EJ25 stamped on it. I see folks talking about EJ253 and EJ255 and EJ257. So I'm a little confused on what I need to be looking for for parts or new long block. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  4. I know it's the head gasket because it's pushing water out the over flow and I'm having to add water every 2 or 3 days. Plus when I have the cap off I have a steady stream of small bubbles coming up. So I would say I'm pretty confident it's the head gaskets.
  5. Well it looks like it's time to change the dreaded head gaskets on my '05 Legacy 2.5 GT Wagon. It is my daily driver and all stock. I don't have any plans to significantly raise the HP other than maybe a down pipe, exhaust and maybe a tune. So I won't be needing any exotic parts for this repair. With that said I have a couple of questions. 1) What is the best brand head gasket to get? I want to do this one time and be done with it. So quality over cost is what I'm looking for. 2) What is the best complete engine gasket set to get? Might as well replace them all while I have it apart. 3) What is the best timing belt set that includes all the pulley's and water pump? I bought the car in Dec. with 132,000 miles on it. I'm not sure if this stuff has been changed either. Might as well get it while the getting is good. 4) Where is the best place to buy all this stuff? If there is an advertiser of the site that has all this then I'm down with supporting them. 5) Is the fancy Subaru cam pulley tool necessary to get the pulleys off? I plan to send the heads to the machine shop to get them checked. So I will be tearing the heads down before sending them out. Again, I want to do this job only one time. Any tips or tricks for doing this job would be greatly appreciated. I'm a newb to Subarus but been around cars and race cars my whole life. So I'm fairly mechanically inclined and don't think this will be too terrible of a project for me.
  6. I have an ‘05 LGT wagon with the 2.5 turbo. All stock. I’ve owned the car for about 5 months now and it has 142,000 miles on the clock. I have noticed recently when I am manual shifting that if it is in a lower gear, up in the RPM range and not under load that I am getting valve rattle. I run 93 octane gas. So I know is not that. I’ve checked my oil and it’s all good. I was wondering if it could be doing it due to the timing belt being worn causing the timing to get off? I didn’t get any maintenance records with the car. The folks I bought the car from said they never changed it either. I know these are interference engines and things go bad quick if something in the timing is out of whack. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
