  1. Carpet I cleaned and let it dry out in the sun. As for the spare wheel cover I bought some kinda corrugated plastic and cit it to fit.
  2. OK, thanks. I thought it would just come out with the four screws loose.
  3. I thought I'd be able to pull out the MAF sensor and clean it by removing the 4 small phillips screws that holds it in the housing however the sensor does not come out, there is resistance. Is there something else internally holding the sensor unit? My other option is just to pull out the whole housing around the MAF sensor. Just wondering if the sensor does come out after removing the screws or not. Thanks!
  4. This is for a 1998 2.5 GT sedan. Have a fender bender rear left panel just below the rear left tail light. It appears to be a separate panel as there are cut outs on either side. Trying to see if it's a replaceable panel or if I need a body shop to deal with what I got. I can't seem to find it online. Thanks!
  5. Interestingly enough there is also someone selling a 94 non turboed and automatic, the car looks in really good shape. Between the two it be a sweet build alas no tengo dinero.
  6. Thanks. Yeah it seemed it was merely misslabled as 1998. Haven't spoke to the owner yet. Seems in rough shape. 300,000k on the car but it only mentions the need for a new fuel pump. From the pics it also seems without the bottom door molding on passenger side as well. It might be worth the restore or not. I mean if money was not an issue yes I'd buy and restore it as it is a classic and rare. I thought of possibly doing an engine swap into my car but the 2.2L Turbo engine doesn't appear to be putting out any more HP than my 98' GT stock and since I got a running strong 2.5 engine in my car that's OG it doesn't make sense to frankenstein the car away from original spec. Well, aside from doing some basic upgrades to the existing engines but no turbo.
  7. There's a turboed 1998 Legacy sedan for sale near me. It's got me curious as 1) I own a 1998 Legacy GT and the body doesn't match up, the one pictured seems an older model. Interior as well seems different. 2) As far as I know there is no left-hand drive turboed Subaru sedan in the late 90's released in North America (I'm in Canada). I think possibly though in the early 90's there was. 3) I figured it might be a swapped engine but the rear badging does say Legacy Turbo. Also no AWD badge so perhaps a FWD model. Anyways here's some pics of it:
  8. Thanks for the reply. I think I might just use a piece of plywood. As for the carpet I see that it's some kinda foam mat and then there's the grey cover. Trying to figure how much I can possibly salvage but I'm thinking to just buy a replacement carpet if it's not crazy expensive.
  9. I believe water is seeping into my trunk via the spoiler as whenever it rains the underside of the trunk lid is wet and I'm not currently seeing any other way the water can be there. So I gotta seal that up but in the meantime I noticed the carpet and board covering the spare wheel is moldy as hell. The board covering the spare is I think some kinda inexpensive fiberboard which I figured I could probably fashion easily by using the existing one as a template. Has anyone done this? What material is exactly the cover board? Also where besides the dealer can I possibly get the carpet replaced? I live in Canada. I considered cleaning the carpet but not sure if it's salvageable or cleanable without destroying it.
  10. Looking for some touch up paint for my 97 GT. Not sure what green I'm looking for. Is there a particular brand I should look at?
  11. Wondering what the best option is (for the price) for a new clutch and flywheel. Also if there is anything I should watch out for or avoid?
  12. Hi, thanks. Yeah the one I mentioned is also on RockAuto. Just wondering if the quality is different, as in you get what you pay for. If it's pretty much the exact same I'd go with the Holstein.
  13. My local mechanic was unable to find a rear left ABS Wheel Sensor for a 1997 Subaru GT. I found some online but the prices seem to vary considerably. I am in Canada. How much am I looking at paying? I found this: STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS ALS844 for about $160 CAD. Is this what I'm looking at pricewise? Thanks
  14. Hey thanks. I guess I'll have a mechanic look at the MAF and I suppose with that spark plugs and other related fuel/air components.
  15. Under a steady constant throttle the car appears to slightly intermittently surge. I can feel it pull then recede over and over, though suttle. Seems to happen or is most noticeable in the lower RPMs. I would think that it might be the MAF sensor (which was actually replaced by previous owner a couple years ago) or something with the air/fuel mixture being off but I don't see the RPMs jumping around while under constant throttle. I did notice today that there was an engine surge and RPM blip while idling in neutral though. That may be normal, I don't know. Part of me is wondering if it's the drivetrain. Don't know if this is related or a separate issue but on cold start the car idles very rough for about a minute, like the car shakes, then it smoothes out. Maybe a misfire? The car runs really rich upon cold start. I also noticed an intermittent click sound from the engine bay at times which I think is tied to to when the car is warming up and the RPMS float up and then rest and then goes up and then rests lower till finally the car idles smooth at like 750 RPM.
  16. Thanks. Gonna take that suggestion. Find something mid tier.
  17. I've been doing research and I see a few options with positive and negative reviews. Biggest issue seems that if you want brighter you loose on lifespan. I'm looking for something better than OEM to see better down the road but don't want to have to replace then after 3-6 months. Also would like to keep the cost reasonable. Any suggestions?
  18. Thanks again. I'm going to have that looked at. I believe the clutch is good. The clutch does seem to have some distance between partial engagement to full engagement when I lift off the pedal. I don't know what is normal for the car. I did do the clutch test of putting it into 3rd gear from a stop and releasing the clutch to see if it stalls right away. It did. So perhaps that's merely an adjustment though I suppose it may be related to the issue mentioned above too.
  19. Will check on that, thanks. By sweating I was told a minute amount of oil present but no discernible source.
  20. Hey, thanks. I haven't checked under the hood yet for leaks so that I will do. At first I thought it was perhaps the nature of the car, running rich on cold start, but the gas smell is strong enough to be concerning. Will have it checked out for leaks.
  21. What I've observed after owning the car for a bit is that I get a strong gas smell upon start up. Also I get a clicking sound under the hood which I think has something to do with running the A/C during startup, like when I'm trying to defrost the windows.
  22. I recently bought the same car. Better shape than yours but it does need new struts, F-L CV Boot assembly and steering rack. My 1st Subaru too. Love the AWD and it's got a bit of a roar to the engine once you hit 4000 RPMs (think my exhaust is aftermarket too), sporty though not as much as Imprezas. 270,000K and hopefully it will survive a while longer.
  23. Just noticed a shudder when shifting into 1st. Seems fine otherwise with no clutch slippage. Not much has changed recently except a lot of rain, slight drop in temps and a recent inspection I was told my tranny is "sweating." The clutch was replaced 34,000k ago so I don't think it's a bad clutch. Any ideas?
  24. Seems my left front speaker is half volume of the right and it's not the balance control so I'm looking at new speakers. Do not know if my speakers are original but the quality seems pretty good. Can anyone recommend a pair of speakers best bang for the buck?
  25. I think it might be something like that. I drove it around town just now and no ABS light so my thinking is as you said some gunk around the sensor or perhaps a lose connection. I have the suspension work coming up soon so I'll have the shop check both. Thanks.
