I will turn it in to my insurance before my inspection is due. $100 deductable.

I have enjoyed my Legacy and until yesterday when a tiny pebble bounced up and hit my windshield of course cracked it. I am wondering if this happened to anyone else? I have read some model years have had issues but not the 2016? Honestly....it was freaking pebble......unbelievable.

Sorry....I should have been more clear. I bought the 2016 with 20,000 miles. I have put 10,000 miles on it. They inspect it at the 30,000 mile subaru service ripoff. Some suggest this is cheap insurance as the warranty is 10 year, 100,000 miles on the 6th generation cvt.

Tires were not new when I bought it.

Ended up costing $282. Kind of look at it protecting my CVT for another 5 years. Cheap insurance. Inspection revealed no issues with the car. Tires are at 6/32 so it won't be too long before needing replaced.

 

Again, not an exciting car but reliable, comfortable and safe. 10,000 mile of ownership...I like it.

South Hills Subaru(Pittsburgh Pa) informed me that the 30,000 mile service for my 16 Legacy would be $770. Yep....even though the advertised price is $191 on their website. When I pointed out the advertised price....they said they must have been hacked. I then asked why so expensive and the lady said "because we do lots of stuff".

 

So I then called Moon Township Subaru(owned by the same company and 15 miles apart) and the quoted me at $270 for the 30,000 mile service.

 

Any recent experience with this? Seems absurd to me and that Subaru should do better than this. I had to change my battery but otherwise my Legacy runs perfectly and it really is nice in a lot of areas(ride, fuel, comfort, stability). I just hate car dealer bull crap games.

I drove over 400 miles north on I79 then East on I80 and back during the Sunday storm. Took my daughter back to college....wind, snow, freezing rain....no problems at all. In fact, 1st time I made that trip in my 16 Legacy in nasty weather. Never felt more confident making that trip.

Just an early update, my 2106 is running just perfect. The last few days we have has snow and temps in the 20-30 degree zone.My mpg's have dropped from from a 32 average to just below the 28 mpg. The mpg drop was quick...but the daily temp drop was just as quick here in western PA.

I am not sure how great the data is but according to carcomplaints.com the issues for the 2016 Subaru Legacy are minimal(however 3 recalls that were repaired). So, as far as I can see (thank goodness for the 10 yr/100,000 warranty on the cvt), the Legacy gets really good reliability ratings and kudos from Consumer Reports,Iseecars, carcomplaints....I mean, other than a bearing here or there/battery, most of the kinks were worked out by 2016 and it really is a hardy beast.

I will say there does seem to be quite a bit of whining/complaining here on this site but not anywhere else(including Edmunds/cars.com). Even autotrader loves the 6th generation Legacy. Oh and JD Power could live without the Legacy...lol. Not sure about real posts vs trolls. Not sure it matters.

 

I have put about 5,000 in miles a short while, have averaged 32 mpg in western PA and on a long trip averaged 36mpg. 1 oil change(3 years free) and tire rotation. I did have the radio flash update and that did improve the radio. Love the huge gas tank. 1st time subaru owner and I can see why they have a loyal base.

All in all, the car has been pretty nice. Same price as a new compact, has awd, heated seats, sun roof and free xm for a few months. Radio had 2 flash updates, 10 year/100,000 miles warranty on CVT, excellent safety scores......not a much to complain about....faint smell of burnt antifreeze...thats it. Hope to run it for awhile and don't see many worrisome issues. I do wish I had remote start tho. Coming from an 03 accord(I do miss it in some weird, small ways)....I feel like I am living in luxury....lol

 

My wife and daughters do think it is boring..ha,ha. Wait til winter hits here in Pittsburgh. They will want to drive it.

I drove nearly 600 miles this weekend as I went to visit my kid in college. Car ran fine...no issues. However, after exiting the car after prolonged times....I smell a faint whiff of antifreeze when I exit the car on the drivers side.

 

I saw this was discussed but not sure if there has been any reason for this or any resolution? I don't see any leaks. Anyone have this issue as well or a resolution? 2016 Legacy with 25,000 miles,

Thanks for the info Pudge. I am not sure there are truly any mid sized exciting mainstreamish type cars(although I think the Fusion still has a nice look). I hope I don't have many issues as I do not have an extended warranty($2,400) so I think I can hold the repair costs under that(as long as the head gasket issue stays away from this generation and I have 6 years/75,000 miles left on the CVT).

 

Regarding the CVT...I haven't seen too many issues reported in this generation. Unless I am missing something....seems like the issues with it have been mostly resolved.

 

Yes...Not an exciting car but coming from an 03 Accord to a 16 Legacy makes me feel like I am driving luxury(who would have thought I would have become hooked on having a heated seat...lol).

I actually had a similar situation. I bought a 2016 Subaru Legacy Premium with 21,000 miles. Has moon roof, heated seats. $18,000 plus trade of $1,000(03 Accord). I think you definitely in a good range. Looks super clean. Good luck.

Drove my 2016 Legacy over 400 miles today to visit my daughter. I79 and I80 in Pennsylvania(almost all interstate/ some town) and averaged 35.5 mpg. Comfortable, simple and pleasant driving experience. Last week had two flash updates at the dealership. Very good experience so far.

Thanks for the warranty info. I am past the 3 yr/36,000 mile timeline. Mine is almost 4 years old but I only have 22,000 miles. Another year on engine and 6 years nearly 80,000 miles on CVT. Not sure I am eligible?

 

Subaru confuses me a bit. They rank high in reliability yet everyone discusses these major issues. It's like loving your spouse one day and being unable to look at them the next.

 

So far I really enjoy the simplicity of my 16 Legacy. Just curious about whether it should be reliable or not.

One more thing....do you recommend adding an extended warranty. Mine is a 2016, 22,000 miles(has had 7 oil changes at subaru dealer). I purchased it at a non subaru dealer but since it still has 1 year on the power train I still think I can extend it through subaru. Any thoughts on this? Thank you.

I have read that the 2.5 is under powered. From just a regular guy driving to work and back...it has plenty of power, awd, easy to drive, comfortable and a decent sound system. Almost forgot the safety rating. Not the most exciting but really nice in a lot of ways. Hope she remains steady and reliable. Personally can't ask for much else.

I purchased the 2016 Legacy 2.5. Burgundy/red, cloth, heated seats, moon roof and 22,000 miles. Still has 1 year left on powertrain and 6 years nearly 80,000 miles on the CVT. Honestly seems really solid, basic and comfortable. I considered the Fusion AWD (more of an exciting style)but liked the Subaru AWD and the potential resale is a little better. I am in Western PA and on my nearly 25 mile drive to work I am averaging about 35.5mpg for almost 1 full week. My hope is that it is a reliable friend that can get me through the hard times know around here as winter.

I was just asking for honest experiences. Did not mean any harm. I appreciate cars101.com but there isn't alot of info about experiences with a 2016 Legacy. I am considering a purchase and believed this would be a logical place to ask questions before I spend my hard earned money.

I hate to ask but I need to find just a bit more reassurance...is the head gasket issue in the past? 2015-2019 seem to have fewer reports but I am hoping to hear a realistic expectations from some of you.

 

I know that SUV's are in demand but are you seeing the Legacy sedan holding decent value after a few years?

 

I want to try Subaru. I really do. AWD seems incredible and I live on a hill in Pennsylvania. Never had it. I have had extremely reliable cars...I just want to know what I am in for regarding maintenance and reliability.

Trying not to be a pain here but I have another question. Does the CVT fluid need changed or not under normal everyday driving conditions?

Thanks for the information on the CVT warranty. I called the number for SOA located at the bottom of the letter and yep...the warranty on the CVT is extended for 100,000 miles and 10 years from the original purchase. That helps me feel reassured for sure!

 

Any other major issues(other than normal wear and tear)? Seems like the head gasket issue was fixed years ago. I read about oil consumption but that doesn't seems as prevalent for this generation, but perhaps someone has some experience to share?

 

Super nice car, less expensive than a 2016 CRV and a nicer ride/better safety.

I am looking for any experience/advice regarding a 2016 Legacy. Still has 13 months powertrain warranty left. 22,500 miles driven(7 oil changes). All done at a Subaru dealer. No outstanding recalls. Although serviced at a Subaru dealer, it is for sale at a Honda dealer...no certified extended warranty.

 

I understand the 2016's are not apart of the CVT warranty extension. I have always owned Honda....I am concerned about making the purchase as I don't want to be stuck with major tranny/engine repairs in a year.

 

Btw...really enjoyed the test drive(s), gas mileage is amazing as well as the safety record. A very comfortable car for sure. Just nervous to make the purchase because of the limited warranty remaining.

 

Can anyone relay their experiences with this car.
