  1. Turns out it was the plug wires. Replaced them and the plugs and the car is running well again, and the light has not returned. Thanks all!
  2. Hi all. Looks like there are a lot of options regarding new plugs and wires. My Legacy is stock non-turbo 2.5i, 150,000 km. It's a daily driver up in the Canadian prairies. No racing or anything like that. I ordered NGK OEM Platinum plugs from amazon.ca yesterday, but then was reading about Iridium x plugs, NGK V-power copper plugs, etc. Rock auto seemed to have all a bit cheaper too ... As for plug wires, looks like the NGK FX-101 would be best? They're around $80CDN on amazon. Thanks!
  3. Thanks guys. Platinum OEM NGK plugs ordered. The iridium were same price, but I read that they might not be best for 2.5 SOHC engines as they're designed for higher compression turbo engines.
  4. I have a 2005 Legacy 2.5i non-turbo. Starting yesterday the engine started hesitating a tiny bit on acceleration while my wife had the car. That evening she noticed the engine light went on and the cruise control light started flashing. I went to a parts store today and they pulled a code - P0303. Misfire in cylinder 3. After hearing the cars issues, the parts person said most likely plugs, plug wires, or ignition coil issues. The code is off now, but the car continues to hesitate when under load - more noticeable when accelerating in 1st gear. Idle is fine. Starting seems ok too. I bought the car 6 months ago from a family member. It has 150,000 km. The head was redone (with new plugs) around 90,000 km - so 60,000 km ago. Not sure if plug wires were replaced but they look to be in ok condition. I removed the #3 plug today. I've attached a few photos if someone could give their opinion. I'm thinking to buy new NGK OEM platinum plugs at around $9.99 CDN each. If that doesn't solve the issue perhaps I should replace the plug wires? A diagnostic seems to cost a few hundred bucks, so I thought why not replace the plugs before going that route? Thanks for any / all advice!
  5. Whoops, I couldn't upload my photos of the plugs. Here's a few links: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6BcSh92wE2Rvi1ZJ9 https://photos.app.goo.gl/XtpJszCjpNnFEyRH9 https://photos.app.goo.gl/px3X8x9q2Z9uPM1NA https://photos.app.goo.gl/yTYTpaAEqPRuNxGCA And I also checked the spark (though not sure how well I performed the test ... it was getting cold and I was tired): https://photos.app.goo.gl/euoPnCx2cofA934QA
  6. Hey all. I have a 2005 Legacy Wagon 2.5i non turbo. Starting yesterday the engine started hesitating a tiny bit on acceleration while my wife was driving. 7. Thanks all. I live in Calgary, Alberta. So while I don't think it's the rust belt, wintertime certainly brings a lot of snow ... and there are chemicals they spray on the roads to get rid of the snow. Sounds like the consensus is getting coated rotors. I'd never heard of them before, but just moved back to Canada after a decade + in the tropics. I was thinking Raybestos coated rotors and either Raybestos or Bendix copper-free ceramic pads. Good choice? I read that Centrics aren't so good these days. Thanks again for all the great advice! PS - the Max brake kit I was looking at gets good ratings on Amazon (for other car models). But don't think the rotors are coated.
  8. Hey all. I recently bought my first Subaru - a 2005 Legacy Wagon 2.5. It's been well cared for by a family member, and has about 140,000km. The mechanic who did the insurance inspection noted that the brake pads would need to be replaced soon. He did not mention anything about the rotors, but it was a quick inspection. While driving on the highway last week I braked down from around 120-125 km/hr and the steering wheel kind of shuddered. I thought it might be the road, but it happened a few more times. Braking from a slower speed didn't produce the same dramatic results ... but my wife thinks there's a little vibration. I don't have a micrometer to measure the rotors, but I took a look and noticed some dark vertical lines (running from the center to the edge) on the front rotors (not on the back). Here are photos (I couldn't attach to this message for some reason: https://photos.app.goo.gl/vN4uZvP5RZthZT2w5 https://photos.app.goo.gl/hZ3q3hf98XBa9gEa9 I was going to order brake pads from Amazon, but might order a kit that comes with rotors and pads all around. They are Max brand ceramics: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00NJ6IFFO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_10?smid=A2603KOY559FTB&psc=1 I'd appreciate any thoughts from other owners. Thank you!
