  1. The pulley debate has been going for yeeeears! Or at least it was back when i was a regular on forums. But personally I have never seen or heard of anyone spinning a bearing from a perrin pulley. But do what you are comfortable doing. And many subarus have run a single mass flywheel over the years the only ill effects youll have is slightly more rpm drop when chugging up hills at lower throttle and a little more drive train noise. Mine was about 5lbs lighter than the stock dual mass (21lbs vs 26 iirc) 1000% I agree with you and thanks for mentioning bushings and all the under pinnings as a great place to start.
  2. But adding lighter rotating mass, and more powerful spark plugs will help, you are limited by the stock duration of the cams, getting regrinds is a big difference. Ive done ngk plat plugs, lighter weight single mass flywheel and crank pulley drop in filter with a super ghetto intake. Will she smoke a new sti, not unless a complete hack is driving, can I have a great time on a twisty back road, absolutely. Hope this answers a little better.
  3. Where theres a will (and a wallet) theres a way. Biggest question is what are you trying to do? Daily driver with occasional spirited, drop in a k&n filter, fab up an exhaust get a single mass flywheel and lightweight crank pully and enjoy. Want more? start searching for a wrx donor or saving for a stroker kit punch the stock engine out to 2.7, grind some spicy cams and get some nitrous. Its your car, I searched for 8 years for another clean 04 leggy with a 5mt after my last one and I parted ways, and Other people's options be dammed, if I want a fatter torque curve I'll track down a h6 and stuff that under my hood. Its all about how much time, devotion, and cash you are willing to put twords the project. All that being said there are more financially practical cars for raw speed.
  4. Theres some good threads in the archive section on this, i havent really dug in physically to verify yet, but i am told pretty much any 00 to 08 fronts the rears require changing out the backing plate or using an adapter to get a different caliper. I will post a walkthrough when I start knocking bolts loose.
  5. You shouldn't need spacers for the back, if you find an outback sedan it will be level, a wagon will have a slight ass up look, to see the difference just park next to an outback! Just remember you need to use the 00 to 04 top hats if you use 05 to 07 struts. No clue on impreza exhaust, I would plan on going custom. If you are trying to do this on the cheap, find a donor car unbolt the fart pipe clean it up and cut and replace each section you are looking to upgrade, muffler cats with lor restriction units ect. The ebay 2.5rs dual port headers will fit, they take some finagling and stretching but they do fit, spend some time giving them a good coat of heat resistant paint or exhaust wrap for added insurance. Rignt now i have parts from 6 different subarus on my car, imprezas, legacys, wrx. And a tribeca have all donated. Next up is grabbing front brakes off an 05 leggy gt and rear 2 piston brembos off an sti. Hence the Mutant edition moniker, I was going to get one of those "5hitbox Edition" badges off ebay but the wife says this fits better
  6. I've been tackling this nut for a bit and from what I've researched the 05 to 07 struts and springs will fit if the 00 to 04 top hats are used. Havent tried yet, so if someone has please chime in! Outback springs and struts from the same vintage as ours bolt right in for a little bit of a height boost, keep your eyes peeled for a good doner car and maybe snag some taller sidewall tires at the same time. The 35th has an open diff up front and the viscous snot box in the center, iirc a wrx has a better one up front dont quote me on that tho.
