Agree with the two above but also, if you're buying OEM I wouldn't talk with the parts dept of your local dealer. You can often find discounted OEM stuff online that is shipped from the dealers themselves.
Air Filter
Tacoma Subaru - $24.95
Subaru Parts - $19.76
$5.19 difference but if you scroll down towards the footer of the Subaru Parts website, you'll see that it's still Tacoma Subaru shipping it out. No idea why they do this but I've had to purchase a backup radar sensor thing for my Crosstrek once. They said it failed and I scheduled a time to get it replaced but mentioned I'd bring the part in myself. They said they wouldn't warranty it since they don't know where it came from but I showed them the box (still sealed) and the sender was their parts department. Service Advisor laughed it off and said they'll warranty it haha. -

Anyone have recommendations for performance shops in the Denver area?
Might want to either ask in the Mountain West sub or FB group since it looks like that sub has been quiet for a bit. for the doggo pic.

Surprised none of the Washington peeps have suggested AWD Auto in kirkland, WA (subaru specialists) . Have folks had bad experiences with them? I took my WRX there a couple times and more recently my LGT when the intercooler hose blew off and they treated me right, got the work done quickly and for a fair price and didn't try to upsell me on a bunch of unnecessary crap. (I was pretty sure a hose blew but it was dark, I had no lights and no tools and was stuck on the side of the freeway, so taking it to a shop seemed the most sensible course).
I'm also torn on whether to mention Drive Auto Sports in Everett, WA. They're the ones who did All the work on my car. I feel that for the most part they did good work, the car is running great, and they are IAG certified engine installers, but there are a number of minor issues that I'm unhappy about and it makes me hesitant to give them a two thumbs up recommendation.
I haven't been there personally since I live more toward the Tacoma area but if you're recommending AWD Auto I can add them on there. I wouldn't feel torn on mentioning Drive Auto Sports judging by your experience and unhappiness, I just wouldn't recommend them haha.

M45 if your in Nor Cal.
They are gearing up. Expanded the machine shop across the street. Getting ready to supply short or long blocks far east as Colorado.
I had them build the shortblock and do the heads on this last rebuild.
So far 1000+ miles in and little drama other than my mistake of not cleaning the MAF sensor before breaking and tuning.
There is zero piston slap on startup!
Running clean DAM now.
Anyhow. Good crew there.

Reliability is up in the air if previous owner doesn't have maintenance records. The stage 2 clutch has me raising an eyebrow. I'd assume it was upgraded to handle something more than a stock engine at some point but unless you have history, it's only a guess. Like @ehsnilssuggested i'd take it to get compression tested and fully inspected.

As far as Subaru help here in SW PA:
TPG Tuning is east of Pittsburgh and they’ve helped me troubleshoot and do some maintenance stuff. Supposed to have great tuners in house, but I’ve never used their dyno services. Great company for all levels of builds in my experience 5/5
Six Star Performance in Pittsburgh also has a fantastic reputation, although I’ve never used their services. From what I hear they’re 5/5 for all kinds of builds
Dealerships:
Sendell Subaru is 30 miles east of Pittsburgh, but fantastic service and parts department.
Junk yards/parts, all great experiences:
All Foreign Auto near Pittsburgh - huge selection of parts
Hendersons Auto in Scottdale PA - small yard, lots of Legacy’s and OB
PMP Auto Group, Mertztown PA - all the parts you could really use, motors and trans prices seem very reasonable esp
Added in TPG Tuning and Sendell Subaru . Six Star is already listed but added a second thumbs up for your rec.

I saw how these guys put an RB26 in to a Nissan S12, you may even know the car, it's kinda famous as it was the first RB26 in an s12. Granted, that was many years ago and things may have changed, but it was the most hacked together install I've seen and I would absolutely not take my car there. washers upon washers upon washers to space the motor mount enough... like come on figure it out!
Okay okay, my bad. I swear it was modgarage that did the build on this one, but refreshing my memory with a google search shows that it was UpGarage
Ah ok, thanks for clearing it up. Their shop only opened in 2020 so I thought the timeline a bit odd. Ryan the main tech there was known for his quality work so I was worried haha.

I do pretty much all my own work except for engine bottom ends, so I haven't been to them for service, but they're good for sourcing parts, and work on a *lot* of Subarus. Other Subaru owners in the area go them. ~1 hour drive from my area gets you to a specialist instead of someone with generic knowledge.
Probably more important for performance oriented work, or diagnosis, but I'd go here for anything I needed done.Got NVAuto added in, thanks for the recommendation.

Yeah I’m going to call tomorrow. The only reason I second guessed it is because a lot of threads on here say you don’t. Maybe they can revise my current tune for a cheaper price. Doubt it tho lol
You never know! I My brother's tuner charges him less for revisions but it's the same tuner he's had since his first mod.

You have a coupe?
Agree with Boxkita on researching the stickies and Pleides bout replacing you engine soon. Engine knocking is not a good sign and 3-4qts in 2k miles sounds excessive.
-
You need a tune. I'm not mechanically inclined but pretty much everything I've found regarding going FMIC says it's needed because you changed airflow. You can get a tune now for it and revision for turbo.

Which cubby pod did you get? I know some cubby pods don't work with the door.

Hey all, with the ok from JmP6889928 and SBT I cobbled everyone's recommendations so far into a Google Map. Hope this makes it easier to sift through and find a shop if you're ever in need of services.

The Mod Garage
1148 Industry Dr
Tukwila, WA 98188
Originally purchased just parts from them but they opened a shop and do just about everything from installs to rebuilds.
Sidenote, not sure if you'd be interested JmP6889928 but I've done maps for my employer in the past. Nothing fancy but puts all the info in one spot if that makes the search for a shop nearby easier (sample below). I'm down to continue it with your blessing. I'm not much of a gearhead so 'tis bout the only way I can help out
