  1. New summer shoes for the wagon! Thoughts? I think I need to lower it just a smidge more to make them look right.

    w5DCEtr.jpg

Also picked up a JDM GT-B front bumper and projector headlights. Going to to a LHD projector retrofit so those will be a minute before they're installed.

Found a cheap TD04 to replace the tiny TF035HX that came on this JDM EJ205. Going to rebuild it with a billet wheel and a port. Think it should do well. Then need to get STi pink injectors and a tune still. Finally warming up around here so I can go outside and work on it!

  2. Good unintended score at the boneyard this weekend.

GT interior and side skirts. They seem to be cleaning up pretty good.

Im starting to think it may have just been easier/cheaper to buy a rust free GT to begin with..  But you know, sunk costs and such..

  3. I had a look around and could not find a clear cut tutorial on how to install step lights to our second gen legacys as most just attach them to the cabin dome light. This this did not satisfy me. I had a look and figured out how to wire these up to function correctly. The final result will function as factory intended with the step light only illuminating when that individual door is open; no other time. It is also wired into the correct circuit per factory intention so all factory fuses will be applicable.

Disclaimer: This is what worked on my LHD 1999 Legacy L wagon (30th anniversary). Your individual mileage may vary. I also got OCD about how to wire my lights up so you will see I went a bit overkill; you can wire yours up per your own standards. Finally, the wire diagram shows a diode for the drivers side step light. I cannot figure out for the life of my why it is there. I did not install a diode and it seems to be functioning just fine. If you are concerned for your own install, you can install a diode in line with your power wire before you splice it into the main car harness.

To add in the lights to the door cards is easy enough. There should be existing bosses in the correct location for the screws of the light. It is then simply just cutting out the door the size of the light. You should see an imprint of where the light should be, just cut to this shape. I used a box knife and it came out fine.

Now lets look at the wire diagram.

On page 92 of this particular wire diagram I have:

    JhKlHHl.jpg

Now the step lights can be seen in the red and blue boxes. Connector B30 and B101 are the connector for the door wire harness. The important connectors to locate are the B98 and B99 connectors (orange box) for the passenger side and the i2 and i3 connectors (green box) for the drivers side. These will locate the wires for each side.

These connectors can be found in the following areas as seen from page 152 of the same wiring document:

    0NTiZTH.jpg

    Drivers side:

As you can see, the i2 and i3 (white and brown connector) are under the dash above the fuse panel.

    lws1LDn.jpg

For the drivers side, the i2 connector is the white one and you need wire 6 on the connector which should be a blue wire with red stripe. This is your power wire.

    MYmanyH.jpg

Next on connector i3 (brown connector) you need wire 4 which should be a blue wire with orange stripe. This will be your ground wire.

    rP30gkS.jpg

    For the passenger side,

You need to locate the B98 and B99 (Black and white connector) are in the passenger kick panel.

    nVy1oIo.jpg

On connector B99 (White connector) you need wire 7 which should be a blue wire with red stripe. This again will be your power wire.

    7j0JkcD.jpg

Next on connector B98 (black connector) you need wire 8 which should be a blue wire with white stripe. This will be your ground wire.

    6i4Yhp0.jpg

With wires located, you can now splice into these and run them into your door per your own standards. For me, I actually removed the wire harness from the door and added the circuit to the harness. It actually wasn't too much effort to remove the whole sub harness from the door so this is what I did. I got some pins off of old connectors and added them to the B30 and B101 connector as well as using the appropriate colored wires. The pins I got wernt quite right but they did work. If I were doing this again, I would recommend getting some  pins out of this same connector from the boneyard. Pictures of my install below.

With that, you should have step lights that work as factory intended when only opening the door.

    Hope this helps future modders.

  4. Update time.

Car is together enough to drive. Holy cow I've missed this car... and holy cow is it suspiciously fast. I dont think it really feels fast but you do a 3 gear pull and suddenly youre doing 80... I cant wait till its totally back together.

For the turbo update, turns out I have a TF035HM... from the best I have worked out these only came on JDM automatic Foresters and its the half step smaller than the TD04-13G seen in USDM WRX's. It hauls pretty good too.. like full boost at 2400rpm in 3rd gear. I may just leave it as is. Car seems to be running good too, doesnt seem to be knocking or running funny. Only issues it seems to have is a CEL for the TGV valves which dont exist.

Car is more back together. I am missing a trim piece for my spoiler that is halting total reassembly. Not sure what to do about that....

    Wired up side marker lights:

    Added the JDM grab bars:

Lastly, I added step lights to the door cards. I cant find a write up on how to wire them in properly so I spent this evening diving into wire diagrams and poking around the wire harness and I have it figured out. So, spoiler, I am going to post a write up on how to wire them in to function properly since I cant find an existing one.

  5. Follow up, does anyone here have any turbo suggestions? The EJ205 i have just has a td04 on it and, as is typically complained, it kind of runs out of steam at higher rpm. I dont want to make tones of power but I want it to carry more, maybe make a little more power. It has to get tuned anyway from it being a JDM motor so I might as well do any mods before tuning. If I could get 250hp to the wheels I think I'd be happy.

My current thoughts right now are:

    • Get a billet compressor wheel and port the housings
    • TD05-16G
    • VF39
      • I think this will make the motor be too "peaky" and I wont like it.

I know there are tones of threads out there I've been trying to read through but if anyone has some opinions, id be interested in hearing them.

Edit: Turns out its not a TD04 but actually a TF035HM

  6. Does anyone know where to find a set of JDM side trim for the doors (circled in picture)? The USDM ones are bulky and the slimmer JDM ones look much better. I've tried searching the internet to find some but haven't any luck. Im hoping someone here may know a gettin' spot.

Also, if anyone knows where to find GT side skirts and bumper trim, that would also help!

  7. In addition to removing the cancer, I have coated EVERY nook and cranny I can with fluid film. Rust now. I dare you.

Now its time to prep for paint!

    Roof rails off

Rear lights removed and usdm badge holes filled

    jUQIgzw.jpg?1

I had to drop the headliner to grab the spinning rivnuts so I put some sound deadener in while I was there. Same for the rear hatch.

    baf6ZnD.jpg?1

Next is to remove the door handles, side trim, and mirrors. Ill be putting more sound deadener in there as well.

I also did a stealth amp install under the driver seat in preparation for the sub install. Ill post pictures of that once Im done with the full install.

And now to start a lot of sanding....

  8. Long time, no update again. I got very distracted and had to shuffle priorities to build a grassroots motorsports car. (see Fiero below)

ALL THE KNOWN RUST REPAIR IS COMPLETED!

There is a lot more than what is pictured below but I thought Id show the highlights.

Rust repair on the drivers side is done! Just in time for me to put the car back on the ground and pack everything up to move house!

Also, the hood, fenders, bumpers and rear spoiler are off to paint so eventually those will come back. In the mean time, its nice to get to drive around my turbo wagon again

  10. Chaz, that's on the list of things to do as well! My stock warn trans wasnt very happy with the 408 I built for my duster. It died a few weeks after the motor build. Have to do a hemi rebuild on it but I found another trans for the time being. Also just bought an 8 3/4 for it... plus the intake leaks need fixed... and its detonating on premium so I gotta fix the compression ratio... I'm not short for work that's for sure haha.

Well, it was nice to actually start putting metal back in today... 8c61644b20820d42c4d6f68d625b886c.jpg
