Just out of curiosity have any of the higher mileage CVT owners changed the CVT fluid in their cars?

 

I have a 2010 Outback which had about 125k miles on it. I'd be driving between about 50 and 65 mph and I'd feel a little slip or a miss which lasted only about a second. I brought it to the dealer (before the warranty was offered) and they thought that it sounded like a problem with the CVT. But before doing anything else, they suggested a flush, hoping for the best. That was about 2 years ago and everything has been fine...no more slipping at any speed. I guess changing the fluid fixed my problem. Maybe it'd be a good thing for you too.

i bought my 2010 legacy used off of a Ford lot. How do I get subaru to send me that warranty extension paperwork?

 

Go to a dealership or call and provide your VIN. They should be able to tell you about the warranty.

It looks like Subaru Canada has signed on. I received the letter last week. Made service appointment for first week in December. Now have over 180, 000 km.

 

That's great news for me. I had an issue with the transmission of my 2010 Outback in the summer. They flushed it ($500) and it seemed to correct the issue, but I'll get them to take another look after hearing this.

I'm new to this forum (just started having transmission problems). Mine is 2.5l, 4-cyl Outback. Is it the same CVT as a 2010 Legacy (I also own one of those)?

My problem started a couple of months ago when I noticed an occasional squeal and slight hesitation when cruising between 30mph and 65 mph. I took it to the dealer, they tested and couldn't identify the problem. I took it back last week and the said it's the transmission. I bought the car used, 2 years ago. It had 89,000 miles then and now has about 125,000. We love the car, but don't love the $9000 price tag of a new transmission.

I'm in Toronto. Any suggestions about how to proceed. Looks like we missed the extended warranty that I've seen discussed. Thanks.

 

In response to my own post, here's an update. When the dealer told me that it probably needed a new transmission, the service advisor said that we could first try to drain and refill the fluid. $400+ later, I drove away and heard the same squeal a couple of times. Subsequently (for a week) the squeal is gone! I've done a lot of city driving this week and have also driven a return trip, Toronto to Buffalo, with NO problems! Hopefully changing the fluid (which they told me was quite dirty) has corrected the problem. I also informed the dealer that I was aware of the Warranty extension in the US, but they were 'unaware' of this in Canada.

5subes, call Subaru of Canada and ask if they intend to offer the same warranty that we received in the States.

 

Thanks for the suggestion. Mine has 125k miles. I think that they offered only up to 100k, is that correct? I'll certainly try anyway.
