  1. I picked up a set of 02 tgv housings for my top feed conversion. These were deleted with an aftermarket aluminum plug kit. I have the end plates removed along with the plugs.

The issue I'm having is the center of the housing whee the shaft runs through. The plug isn't coming out at all. Does it matter which way it comes out? Is it threaded in? Thoughts???

  2. 2 years in and finally upgraded to a short shifter. I got a boomba shifter, shift cable bushing, and the 1/2 shifter stop. Got it all 2nd hand, still new in package for 200 bux.

The shifter and shifter stop has been installed and "now" works flawlessly. The shifter stop is easy to install and adjust. The stop takes away all of the slop that's in 1st and 2nd. There is actually a fair amount of slop! No more missed 2nd gear shifts.

The shifter itself on the other hand, requires complete disassembly of the shifter assembly. It's not difficult, just time consuming. After initial install throws were definitely shorter and the height and location of the shifter was in more user friendly location. The only issue was that the throw from neutral to say 3rd was shorter than neutral to 4th. Engagement was different too. The cable would actually pop off when going into 3rd. After a few fixes I discovered the problem.

I figured the shifter wasn't manufactured correctly and was causing all of the issues. Since I bought it 2nd hand with no receipt I was essentially stuck with it. The options were install the stock shifter or buy another from a different brand. On the last failure I decided to look and see if there was an actual cause. Because of how the shifter was, it was actually hitting the back of the shifter cable box and disengaging the cable whenever it goes into 3rd.

I modded the shifter cable box for clearance and no more issues. Pictures explain it all...

Did you get this done pre Green Speed? This was easier when deleting TGVs was simple. It isn't any more, and there is an entire thread about how you can't really make the actuators work between pre and post facelift. The engineering is understood, but nobody has a simple solution for doing it. (other options out there with hard-to-find WRX and FXT intakes, yeah... but expensive and not easy to find.)

If you know someone that will e-tune for a TGV delete now, please find a way to discretely share. I am starting to see mine fail, and there is no real good option for me: go Open Source and learn how to delete the CEL code for them myself (then delete the TGVs...) or find someone who can. Or, continue to replace expensive and not-super useful parts to prevent a real problem.

Even tuning for upgraded side feeds now is harder than it should be if you are on COBB, no ability to feed AFR data to the ECU and read live. You need to set up a freaking camera on the AFR readout and do a manual comparo. Stupid.

I haven't done it yet. I didnt know that was even an issue. I thought it was specifically all about the flex fuel kits only. I'll contact my local tuner and see what he says. I have a strange feeling I may have screwed myself in waiting so long to do the conversion. At this point all I'm waiting on is finding a decent looking deal on a vf52 or slightly larger, install it all and get tuned. However, if said tuner is willing to e-tune, I'll see what I can do.

i like that you had a plan. not that it's spiraled out of control...have you thought about adding a lift in your garage? dropping the subframes and doing a full restore is so much easier. Also putting on the full whiteline catalog is cake at that point.

btw, zf transmission in colorado is stepping up there machining operations. so you can get a hardened gearset for the sti 6mt. have you considered my 2008 sti 6mt swap?

at that point going full closed deck with upgraded cams starts to make sense.

then you'll need better brakes. have you considered my jdm full endless brake swap?

if you need any more upgrade options let me know. for instance the English Racing top feed conversion with aerospace tubing w/customized black plastic intake?

You sir, are what we consider the other guy on the shoulder telling us that stock is boring...

    I, for one, agree...

  5. While I understand using what you have.. why not upgrade to top feed injectors? 07+ cars have them and finding them is an inexpensive thing. I found an entire setup for 80 bux with injectors. Not to mention once you get the better turbo, a retune won't be a bad idea. It's one of those "while you're in there" type of thing. Everything else mentioned is absolutely sound. The fluidampr is also a great idea. I run one while also having a lightened FW. Engine still responds faster than stock and actually (to me anyway..) feels smoother.

I guess I'm a little confused, why would you need to do this?

Our radio antenna is a separate grid on the back window. It's the same material as the defroster grid. There are pieces missing from the radio section more so than the defroster. Just trying to avoid replacing a window

  7. Been a bit here.. Christmas was good, mostly about my son and my cars. He got a bunch of Lego sets and my Legacy got a boomba short throw, perin shift stop, and the solid bushing for the cable down below. This 6mt swap has been trouble free up until this first mod. Long as short, the shifter definitely makes things better and angles the shifter towards the driver which honestly threw me off as to where the gears were. I figured out the adjustment for the cable to get the results I needed. It's definitely shorter overall and the throws are definitely short too! I tried to take a picture of the after in comparison to before. It's fairly close camera angle wise. Also, car is at 278k!

It does help.  But honestly, until you have kids you dont realize how incredible they can be.  I dont mind playing catch with a three year old.  The smiles, laughs, absolute joy and pure innocence of childhood makes it all worth the time.  I can't hang with the kids on the playground anymore, dont have the energy.  But I can watch them, remember and smile.  Trust me, if parents could keep them 3-4 forever, they would.

Mine told me I can't call her "baby girl" anymore in public.  Shes growing up and it makes me sad.  Eventually I will lose her to another man.  He better know I am not going down without a gun fight.

I completely agree with you on that sentiment. 3-4 years old was a blast for me. It's like the early discovery years! Now he's about video games and electronics. I'm kinda hoping I can get him into ecm tuning.. 😅🤔

At any rate, count me in. My only blackout time is spring break. That's when I take my son and visit the other grandparents in Virginia and then my other half of the family down in Georgia, and yes, the LGT made the inaugural trip of these trips!

  9. Work has been nuts the past 3 weeks. Between the weather and the normal amount of stupidity on the roadways, I lost track of this and my vacation plans. I normally take a vacation in April which then frees up the rest of the year for anything that comes along like this. No vacation in April which means it's moved to June. I can't take 2 vacations in June.

I really hoped to make this as meeting y'all for the first time would've been awesome. Take a bunch of pictures!
