  1. I could be in for a set as well, anybody know how involved the install is?

Mine are still firmly installed on the shelf in the garage but from what I know, it'll likely require you to drop the transmission to get at a couple of bolts. You could probably peel back the carpet and cut clearance holes, then glue patches on with seam sealer, but that'd be a preference thing. I want to say there are install instructions out there for Moore's plates on a WRX, should be darn near identical to that.

(there are instructions in the box ;))

Also if we can get pre-orders for 5 sets I will go ahead and make them.

My laser guy is doing me a favor cutting and bending these he is usually doing high volume runs, set up time is where the expense comes in.

let me know what you guys think..

    Vince

  2. It's all about cash flow. I've had a lot of other expenses this spring with my son's racing season starting and having to unexpectedly replace the water pump, etc, on my daily Forester. Plus, a guy here on the forum that I built a Koni setup for stiffed me and never paid me the nominal fee I charge for the work. I am still absolutely gonna get one it's just gonna be another month or two before I can come up with the funds.

I sincerely apologize for the delay Vince! I truly appreciate what you have done for us and I will buy one of these from you very soon, I promise.

No worries I can totally relate! Thanks for the update!!

How many sets are left? I’m interested!

    I believe I have 5 or 6 sets left

What the heck, sign me up. It'll be a lot easier to convince myself to go with an 18G, STI cams, and WMI if I have these to install as well, right? Pretty sure that's how that works.

    PM on the way shortly.

You got these will definitely help hold the power!!

  3. Doing any type of discount for say the first committed 10?

My goal has always been to keep the costs down.

The price of 390 shipped is the best I can do right now.

This new design has a bit more welding and fab time involved than the original plates.

Purchasing/ modifying the shift cable brackets added a bit onto the cost.

Being a trial run all the standoffs were made by hand on a manual lathe which ate up quite a bit of time/ cost.

I am in contact with a local small company that does cnc turning work, if the demand is still there after these plates sell, I will pony up for a lifetime inventory of standoffs and pass the savings onto you guys.

  4. Got mine ordered the other day. You boys better pony up. As with all other 5th gen specific parts, these may be a very limited quantity.

Thanks again for the order we are down to 6 sets for the original batch. Having all the fixtures/ hard work done it wont be an issue to run more sets from here on out.

Is there a FS thread, or Group Buy thread? Or are we just contacting Vince thru PM?

I'll see what I can do to get a group buy started, any mods I should talk to or a rule list to follow?

Oh sorry, I have his cell #. I guess I've been in touch with him for about a year about producing 5th gen plates.

His email for PayPal is vincentcooldahl@yahoo.com if you want to get in touch with him about buying a set. The first post of this thread has his gmail address as well.

above is my paypal email and I no longer have access to that yahoo account, best way to get in contact is on here via pm or vdahlae@gmail.com

I think Vince is working through PM as of now but it'd be nice if we ran a Group Buy thread. GTEASER would you be willing to show him how to set one up?

He would have to set a Group Buy up thru SBT, but he would probably qualify as a homebrew vendor (HBV), so no forum vendor fees. Plus, he's offering a product that no one else makes, so there's no worry there of competition with other vendors.

    WOOHOO!

  5. Great job Vince! I will take a set. Do you have a company name or logo you could put on them? Maybe a little laser cutplate that could be tack welded on, similar to how Perrin and ADF do their logos. I want to give credit where it's due.

Thank you, I will see what I can do on getting some stainless logo's cut out.

Glad to see these finally finished. At least my old trans went to some kind of use.

It died so others may live... Thank you again! Wouldn't of been possible without having an empty case to throw on the CMM.

I'm in for the buy. I totally agree with GTeaser - brand that baby!

Sounds like a plan, I just need to come up with something cool :cool::cool:

  6. Jared pulled through and got a prototype set installed in his car. They fit with no issues.

He did an excellent write up on the install seen here

    http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/vr001-transmission-blast-plate-install-268339.html?t=268339

I have 7 sets completed going to powder coat this week.

I also sourced bolts so threaded rod is not required.

These plates were a bit more involved to manufacture and had added costs due extra laser cut parts and having to source oem shift cable brackets to modify.

Forum price will be 390 shipped to your door, I do international shipping but at buyers expense.

  7. Who did you send it to? If we know him we'll get all over his ass about it. If I needed a clutch any time soon, I'd be happy to do the test fit, but I don't see doing this any time soon.

Is it possible to install it with the trans in the car? I know there is at least one long bolt that needs to slide entirely thru the tranny. One of the 4th Gen guys did this with the Moore plates by drilling a hole in his trans tunnel and then installing a plate or grommet to cover the hole.

Lol I appreciate the offer, It was a guy out in Virginia, the shop he had his work done at said they were going to install them but some service manager rushed his car off the lift and never put them on, so i wouldn't say it was his fault.

Also the trans will need to get dropped, I have seen people put holes in their firewall to get the job done but don't recommend it unless you really want to ;)

I have an assembled 6MT transmission sitting outside of my car in the garage. I can have it test fitted in an hour. PM me if you are interested and we don't track down that other guy.

I ended up purchasing an exploded 6mt for fitment testing and have confirmed that, but need someone to install the transmission in their car with the plates on and let me know if their are any clearance issues between the plates and the trans tunnel, I am pretty confident they will clear but want to be 100%

PMed as well - mine is at AWDTuning they can help with the test fit

    pm'd back

  8. Welder is back, I did some work this weekend and finished a couple prototype sets, using grade 10.9 threaded rod instead of bolts for now. The design I went with requires modification of both shift cable brackets. I will be including the upper modified shift cable bracket and have instructions on how to modify the lower cable bracket to clear the plate which is a less involved mod (Angle grinder work) unless you guys would prefer having a complete kit with both modified brackets let me know!

I have a set getting powder coated and should be getting installed this week so we will know if there are any trans tunnel clearance issues.

    Time to make it happen

    Vince
