  1. Today our 2018 3.6R had a dead battery, (original battery) she left the map light on overnight.

When I put the battery charger on it, voltage was 10.6amps, I began to charge the battery, for some reason, only the right cooling fan cycled on.

I disconnected the charger, I went and got my jumper cables, started the Spec B, and connected the cables. The outback started right up. I drove the outback for 10 miles to fully charge the battery. Volt meter read +13v with engine running, then I shut it off, volt meter read12.7v. An hour or so later, the volt meter read 12.4v.

During the test drive, I noticed the passenger side window didn't work from the driver's door. I asked google about it, found a youtube video how to reset that window.

Start car, lower passenger side window all the way down from its switch, then fully raise the window and continue to hold switch up for 5 seconds after it's fully up. The driver's side switch will now lower/raise the passenger side window.

I also cleaned both cables on the Outback before charging.

yeah - spent over a half hour cleaning the + connector

it was so bad after 5 minutes of wire brushing it; i got dremel out with sanding drum and took that to it!

then coated it good with dielectric grease before connecting to optima

  2. Need? No. But doing so will avoid having to re-initialize the power windows and re-program a few other volatile options settings.

There are also occasional (rare) instances where intentionally disconnecting the battery is done to force a "hard reboot" of all the car's systems.

    thanks!

Got a OB2 power saver ... then after plugging it in... forgot to connect it to my jumpstarter :spin: so did end up having to do pwr window reprogram.. wasnt hard; but also found dealership was one resetting my seat presets every visit by doing their battery check! The service mgr still claims nothing is reset by disconnecting the battery! :argue:

the good news is that I got to reprogram my ECU-CVT behavior and now as long as its warm;now it actually goes when I floor it making a turn from a stop sign:icon_mrgr

so far I am much happier with a red top optima than the crap factory batteries my car was eating

  3. 2nd oil change completed few weeks back ... full synthetic both times; 1st time had the additive added on a coupon for 0 up charge.

    Include your cylinders(if not in your signature/profile): 4cyl 2.5i

    Odometer: 12,100

    miles driven between: nearly 6,000

    Quarts added: 0

driving style (easy, moderate, aggressive): Easy / mixed 90% ; spirited/ heavy acceleration 10% - usually merging, ramps, turns, passing the semi's that cant stay in own lane due to shitty road surface on interstates in Illinois

Full engine operating temp (sometimes, usually, almost always): Almost Always

    Andrew:

If you look at the spec sheets for both tires I listed they are both a little narrower & the diameter is smaller on OE size than the GY LS2's

[Revs per mile stats show how this will add up & mess with both speedo, mpg, & wear]

  5. I have not been impressed with most OEM tires on cars I have had .... Not currently ready to replace, but from browsing tirerack I have seen a couple to potentially consider:

    Kumho SOLUS TA71 235/50R18

    or

Dunlop Signature HP 235/50R18 [For some reason this size is the closest to the OE size of the GY LS2's in both brands.]

I so wish Dunlop made the awesome but discontinued WinterSport M3's still & in our size. ~Still running year round on a slightly modded tC

    Any thoughts or experiences?

  6. anyone seen specs for these yet? since they have a 225/40R18 maybe they're compatible?

Not sure if they have a name yet but they're the Impreza Sport wheel. Here's a close-up showing a bit more detail:

I originally thought they were a variation on the Legacy Limited wheel but the dark spokes are quite different in design.

  7. Ammcinnis -

I have read the multimedia/nav manual on p83 it looks like you can choose to display music files by Artists/Album/Song/Genre ... but it does not clarify if only one or multiple choices can be made ie order by artist then album or if you have to chose one and the database will be built by that choice.

p 107 states that if files are mpeg 1 layer 3 files from 32-320kbs are supported, however as stated previously in this thread by larrya07 his ltd did not like the 320kbs files ....

I can not find anywhere in the manual where it states any comment about using both usb ports for music memory.

  8. Hello, been a while since a post on this ... from reading other posts I have a few questions:

    1. Does the head unit keep one or two levels of folders ie Artist/>Album/>Track or does it dump all files into a possible endless[4000+] list if using a large cap usb?

    2. Anyone tried using two usb's at the same time? [Leaving two constantly plugged in]

The head unit does not support m3u playlists. The maximum number of files on a USB device is 8000, the maximum number of folders on the USB is 512 folders, and the maximum number of files per folder is 255. Folders up to 8 levels deep can be used, however it can cause a lag, so Subaru recommends folders no more than 2 levels deep.

    3. Is their an export feature that does a play list or do you need to duplicate all files in a new folder with a #'d order? If their is a playlist export what is it/where do I find it?

    4. Have any of the firmware updates helped with issues mentioned?

    5. Are people still having issues with mp3 files with the 320kbs setting? I ask since most files I have are at the 320 speed, but some older ones are 160 or 192kbs. :spin:

    ~Thanks
