  1. Hold on.... when did Tribeca get included in the airbag recall?

    Got my notice 7/27:

    Subaru Recall Campaign TKB-16

    NHTSA Recall No. 16V-359

    July 2016 – Zone B

    Dear Subaru Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain Subaru vehicles listed below, equipped with a non-desiccated Takata-sourced passenger side frontal air bag containing the propellant Phase Stabilized Ammonium Nitrate (certain specific vehicles only):2003-2006 model year Baja2003-2004 model year Legacy2003-2004 model year Outback2006-2008 model year Tribeca2006-2008 model year Impreza (including WRX and STI)

You received this notice because our records indicate that you currently own one of these vehicles.

DESCRIPTION OF THE SAFETY DEFECT AND SAFETY HAZARD

The affected vehicles are equipped with a Takata-sourced passenger side frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion. Over time, that could cause the inflator to rupture when the passenger’s frontal air bag deploys in a crash. If the inflator ruptures, metal fragments could strike vehicle occupants, potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

    WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

Parts are not currently available. Subaru is in the process of acquiring parts necessary to perform this repair. Once there is a sufficient supply of parts available, Subaru will contact you again by mail advising you to proceed with scheduling an appointment with your Subaru retailer (dealer).

Until this repair is performed, do not allow passengers to ride in the front passenger seat.

    WHAT WE WILL DO

Subaru will replace the inflator for your front passenger air bag at no cost to you. We will notify you when replacement parts are available.

  2. I just might have to skip having this done based on what others have posted, and just use the car for when I go somewhere by myself. Sucks to be so anal retentive regarding an eleven year old car, but it has only 70k miles.

Yeah, worries me, too. I've got a 2007 (purchased 08/2006) Tribeca with just 71,000 miles and clean as can be. Even though it is 10 years old, I could not replace it if I had to. I've kept it up meticulously and it has zero rattles or mechanical problems.

They say that they expect parts for mine in December. When they finally get around to fixing it, I may just plant myself at the dealer and do a thorough inspection before I leave - although the idea of placing a tip in the glovebox is a good one. :)

    Luckily, my Legacy is GTG...
