  1. I renewed in Jan . Paid 70.65 , TOTAL for 1 year . They gotta be dying , I like them but no young-uns are gonna pay for their ridiculous prices . G
  2. Thanks guys , all good info. Eases my concerns quite a bit . George
  3. Thanks for the responses. I had an 2021 Outback loaner recently and was really irritated by the lane keeping software . It seemed much more active than the lane departure on my 2016 Legacy . Any thoughts on that ? George
  4. I currently have a 2016 Limited and will probably buy something new this fall , a 2022 of some make/model . This is my first Subaru and I gotta tell you , I've enjoyed the heck out of it and feel just a bit like a traitor for replacing it . Perhaps you could say that I am comfortable with what works well for me . SO , a new Legacy is def in the running for a replacement , probably an XT in a higher trim level . My questions are - Is the 7th Gen noticeably quieter then a 6th Gen ? Is the 7th Gen noticeably better riding than a 6th Gen ? As you might surmise , those are two characteristics of the 6th Gen than I think I want to upgrade , whether on a new Legacy , or if I must on a different make/model . And no , I don't want a $60K BMW or such ...... Any insight you can provide is much appreciated . George
  5. I can't honestly say that my EyeSight has saved me from any accidents . But it is one of the main reasons that I bought my first Subaru . The technology is a nice aid ........ just in case . OTOH , I bought my then 21 yo son a 2019 Legacy and I'm pretty darn sure that it has saved his bacon ! George
  6. A recall has no expiration . Yr or mileage don't matter . As long as he is within the recall parameters . G
  7. All's well that ends well , I suppose . Although the time involved and the aggravation is entirely another matter . I'm glad the issue was resolved to your satisfaction . Next time however , I suggest you go to the local animal shelter and borrow the biggest , meanest , bada** , frothing at the mouth , dog that you can find - to take to the meeting with the service manager . George
  8. Last week I took in my 2016 Legacy Limited to have the exhaust pipe recall done . I figured I would wait on it . They are always slow as molasses , but I am patient and can read a novel there just as well as at home . However the service writer offered a loaner and who am I to say no ? I only asked for NAVI , if possible . They put me in a 2020 Outback Limited . Only 1400 miles on it . Some observations - vs. my current ride PROS Definitely quieter . Seems quite smooth , in a detached sort of way . Interior is very nice , attractive two tone leather . The infotainment screen is much bigger , didn't use it enough for it to be second nature , the search feature for the Navi is easier . The automatic opening on the tailgate is nice . The clock is certainly easier to read than my small , misplaced one . The blind spot detection display with a bright line of color in the mirror black surround is much better , much easier to pick up at a quick glance . I really like the small speed limit sign in the center instrument area , right next to the MPH display . CONS - IMO I hated , HATED , the stop/start feature . Extremely aggravating since the car shutters on every startup . When using the lane departure feature it seemed like the car wanted to drive the car and not let you ! The lane centering seemed very intrusive , it seemed to be putting a lot of pressure on the steering wheel . Seems bulkier , and not planted at moderate speed . Acceleration is very relaxed on mild additional throttle . i.e. - s.l.o.w Seems like the mirrors are angled in such a way that I wasn't comfortable with the 'picture' displayed . I would hesitate to buy one , or a similar Legacy . That start/stop alone is possibly a deal breaker for me . Your results may vary ............ George
  9. I also had them do the front and rear diff fluid changes as it was just more convenient for me. My local shop whom I have known for years You don't trust the dealership , you have a local shop that you do seem to trust . Why on earth did you let the dealership do the diffs ? A bit of convenience has turned into major aggravation for you . I also think that I would have reviewed the dealership video before running off to your local shop . I'm making some popcorn right now and pulling up a chair .... awaiting results of your dealer visit . George
  10. Ha ! Got my recall notice today , even though Subaru customer relations told me weeks ago that my car wasn't under the recall . Obviously the staggered announcements left the right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing . FWIW , my car did seem to make a LOT of noise under hard acceleration last week .. .. George
  11. The answer to your first question lies in the last paragraph of your own post . In answer to your second question - WHO KNOWS ?? If someone here can give you a definitive answer , then I am in awe . And why on earth would you want to wait ?? SMH George
  12. I have always told my children that , " good enough is not enough " . However after 200K+ miles , maybe in this case it is ?! George
  13. My car has a production date of 9/2015 , so it would seem that it would fall within the recall parameters ( end date 9/30/15 ). Checked on-line and nothing shows . So I called Subaru and connected to the recall option . The girl there checked just like I did and since nothing showed for her , and she was not able to give me any more information . She transferred me to customer service . There the girl took my serial number and said my car was not included in the recall . But she then said that ALL customers included in the recall had been notified . According to their own bulletin I don't think this is true . It appears that customers are only notified in stages . I tried to ask her about that , but she INSISTED that all customers had been notified . Rather than argue with her I exited left . I suppose I will actually get a notification in Aug. or Sept. So potentially I could be driving around with an exhaust leak for another 6 months . I may have to get it on a friends rack and inspect the darn thing . George
  14. Turning the conversation 90 degrees - What are your impressions of the Conti TrueContact Tours ? Particularly in the areas of ride quality and road noise . Thanks George
  15. I bought the Legacy in late 2015 . Have about 37K on it . I've seen a few previous threads on the relatively short life of the OEM batteries . I'm on vacation in Delaware . Went out to start the car Sat. morning and ...... nothing . No crank at all .Luckily my son had decent jumper cables , and a Ford F150 , and I ran it around for about 30 minutes to maybe charge it up . Attempt to start Sunday morning and no crank again . Called my selling dealer in GA on Monday to get some info on my extended warranty ( since I didn't have any of that paperwork in the car , only all 6 inches of manuals ) . I couldn't get a live person on the phone - so many people hide behind voice mail these days . So then I looked up the closest dealer , about 35 miles away , and called them . Again , couldn't get the service manager on the phone . Thought about calling the Road Service number but I wasn't sure if it carried over after the stated 3/36 . So I called Subaru . Got a helpful customer assistance fellow on the phone . He seemed to think my only outlay would be the $100 deductible on the warranty . Well that's not the case , since it turns out that the battery is not covered under the warranty . I had considered taking it to a local repair shop , figured it would be around $200 for just a battery and labor . They are only open M-F , 8-5 . Quite different than the Atlanta metro area shops . Ultimately I had it towed to the Subaru dealer in Delmar Md . Being in a small town , they are also only open M-F , 8-5 , for service . The car was put on a flatbed , since this is my first 4WD car I didn't think about the expense of that ! The towing is an allowance of $100 and I have the responsibility over that . Was a bit anxious about that . The car was supposed to be " picked up within 90 minutes " by roadside asisstance , but the tow firm called said they were running late with a lot of business on a Monday . No big deal to me . They showed up , towed the car , the dealership called in the afternoon , said the battery had a bad cell and would be $205 of a new one and the car would be finished late in the PM. I picked it up the next day , it was $205 , the towing wasn't even listed on the RO . I guess it was fully covered by Roadside Assistance . All in all , a bit of a learning experience . When I was working I was spoiled by a company car with NO worries about maintenance costs or repairs , or any inconvenience . Subaru was pleasant and helpful , if a bit uninformed . Raodside assistance was great and kept me informed thoughtout the process , and followup . The dealer was efficient and I did pickup through the receptionist at 7pm . The saving grace was having my son and his truck available thoughout . Breaking down is no fun , away from home is even worse . George
