  1. If you passed the test they also extended the warranty on the short block to 100K for the affected VIN#s. But in my case the excessive oil consumption was do to the wrong grade of oil. You must use 0-20 synthetic. The tire store that did my oil change was using 10-20. Can't believe it makes that much of a difference but it does! The shop argued with me that I was wrong until they looked it up and finally agreed. A lot of shops don't stock 0-20 Syn and have to order it. I figured it out after passing the Subaru oil usage test twice. But loosing oil like crazy in between after an oil change at my service center. At t he time I was driving 2K miles per month so it didn't take long for the tests.
  2. Thanks Picky1 right on. I had the driver side airbag replaced in late May for which they said they had to pull that dash out. I figured the switch was bad and was looking how to replace it. It lists for $28 OEM Looked on the forum to see how to remove it and found this thread. I wonder how many of us paid the stealer the diagnosis fee for their mistake in not setting up like out of the dealer when I bought 7 years ago.
  3. My oil consumption problem seems to be fixed. After about a year of hassles getting including having the car "tested" twice by the stealer and being assured that the car doesn't have the problem I actually think the problem is solved. I had the oil changed a couple of months ago and made sure they used 0-20 and that it was filled to the full line. Since then I've gone 5K miles and haven't lost a drop. Think that in my case the rings weren't seated from when I started driving the car.
  4. My 2013 had 21K miles (after 3 1/2 years) on it when I swapped it with the wife. I drive about 2K miles per month. The low oil light came on at about 23K only about 4K after she had the oil change. I was ready to go to war with Subaru when we got the "The Letter". I went into the dealer and they had to run the test which involves them doing an oil and filter change and asking you to drive at least 1200 miles then returning to see what the oil consumption is under these conditions. They told me the car "passed" and did not need the new short block. I asked why the oil consumption was so bad. They said you needed to run full synthetic 0-20. I was sure that the oil change was with full synthetic but not that it was 0-20. After another 5K I went for an oil change and specified full synthetic 0-20 which the tech highlighted on the work order. Now 4K miles later and the low oil level light comes on again. I took it back to the stealer and they are running the test again. This is my second Suby I had a 1998 OB that went 235K and never needed a drop. Needless to say I'm not a happy camper. What experiences are people having out there with this problem? If this doesn't get sorted out I'll dump this car and never buy another Suby!
